Dark ambient/industrial act, AMPS KILL has unleashed their brand new EP, Avulse.
Without lyrics, Avulse guides the listener through a story. The track titles on the EP provide some context to the emotional inspiration behind the music. But the massive scale of the music itself, however, provides weight and pressure, pressing down and ovewhelming the listener.
Avulse explores the idea of removing aspects of the self or of one’s life that are holding one back from growing and moving forward just as lizards, spiders, and insects need to shed their skin to grow. It’s a process that is often quite painful but always for the better. That pain is the core of Avulse.
The first four tracks were released as singles during the end of 2025 and the last track, “Des Pas Sur Les Cendres”, completes the idea of the group and ties all of them together. That track takes all of its musical thematic material from a paino work by Claude Debussy called “Des pas sur la neige” and expands or explores it.

AMPS KILL‘s aggressive, monolithic music challenges conventions and pushes boundaries with its sound: focused on texture and intensity over more traditional melodic and harmonic approaches. AMPS KILL explores uncharted sonic territory, crafting a soundscape that confronts and interprets the darkness and turmoil of the increasingly dystopic, post-pandemic world. It is not music to take the listener to a better place. It is challenging, confrontational and unrelentingly harsh.
Despite its confrontational nature, AMPS KILL reveals nuances and moments of grace amidst the barrage of sound. A collision of formal training and noise-orientated post-industrial experimentation,AMPS KILL is helmed by classically-trained composer and improviser Stephen Bailey. Following the tumultuous events of 2020, Bailey found solace and expression within extreme music and subsequently altered the course of his career to embrace a compositional output as AMPS KILL that felt more honest, expressive, and true to his views of the declining state of the world.
A self-described “refugee of the classical music world,” after completing formal compositional training in 2015, Bailey began a career in academia. This eventually led to him becoming the director of the award-winning, avant-garde chamber group, Nebula Ensemble. Concurrently, Bailey co-founded aggrotech industrial duo, Offerings to Odin, which performed alongside international industrial acts such as Leather Strip, Suicide Commando, and Velvet Acid Christ and garnered remixes from Alien Vampires and Hocico.
