The New York-based group Makes My Blood Dance (MMBD) are an exciting hybrid of electro-goth and disco-metal. The last two years have seen them issue a series of singles accompanied by cinematic videos and promote them with frequent live performances, most recently on a nationwide US tour with Powerman 5000 and 12 Stones that ended in late May.
MMBD have released their long-awaited debut album, ‘#Z3R0 2 LGHT $P33D!’, today (5th June) via Metropolis Records. Initially available on CD and digitally, a vinyl format will follow in August. It includes the group’s current single, an industrial funk makeover of Macy Gray’s ‘Lately’ that features the distinctive soul singer herself, plus four others that preceded it: ‘Heavy Metal Armour’ VIDEO, ‘Time And A Place’ VIDEO, ‘Your Little Hand In Mine’ VIDEO and ‘Black Summer’ VIDEO.
‘#Z3R0 2 LGHT $P33D!’ features serrated guitars and dance-floor synths locked in a frenetic embrace, vocals that move from operatic power to breathy seduction, and basslines designed to rattle both club subs and metal venues alike. MMBD’s sonic palette evokes a post-apocalyptic ballroom and is a bold statement of intent from a band that refuses to be predictable.
The group will play a set of US dates in mid-June with Mickey Avalon to promote the album, followed by headlining dates of their own from late July. Part gothic theatre, part rave cathedral, every MMBD performance feels immersive, every look curated, every light pulse in sync with their energy. As frontman EV0 often says, “We want the show to feel like a ritual – one where you leave changed.”
