Makes My Blood Dance (MMBD) are an exciting hybrid of electro-goth, pop-metal and electronic dance music who have already turned heads with their electrifying live performances and several singles that have been promoted with cinematic videos.
The New York-based act signed to Metropolis Records in late 2025 and have released a surprising new single today (1st May) as their third single for the label. ‘Lately (feat. Macy Gray)’ STREAM | BANDCAMP sees the distinctive soul singer providing a co-vocal on a dynamic cover version of her own song.
Originally a sleek disco cut on Gray’s 2010 album ‘The Sellout’, MMBD’s industrial funk reinterpretation pulls the track into a darker, colder space before Gray’s raspy, smoky voice cuts through and lifts it somewhere unexpected. “It’s two worlds that shouldn’t meet, colliding in the same room”, state MMBD.
This is a crossover moment for MMBD, bringing a Grammy Award-winning, multi-platinum voice into a space it was never designed to sit in. Gray’s presence doesn’t soften the track, but instead sharpens it, adding weight and contrast as the band rebuild the original song through tension and release.
The release of ‘Lately’ arrives as MMBD continue to tour the USA with Powerman 5000 and 12 Stones on a schedule that runs until the end of May. This will be followed on 5th June by the CD and digital release of the band’s debut album, ‘Z3r0 2 LGHT $p33d!’ PRE-SAVE/ADD | BANDCAMP, with a vinyl release to follow in August. Meanwhile, a limited edition of the LP format is available to buy on the tour.
