review by Paul Baio for MK ULTRA MAGAZINE
My latest project entails watching pairs of movies with similar names or themes, such as Blood Theater and Theater of Blood. Blood Theater, a 1984 film, is a supernatural slasher about a movie theater chain that encounters mysterious murders as it reopens a newly acquired theater, years after the original owner killed his patrons on the theater’s final night. It’s terrific low budget trash.
Theater of Blood, a 1973 horror film, features Vincent Price as a disgruntled stage actor who exacts revenge on drama critics that denied him a prestigious award, echoing the dark humor and cleverness of the Dr. Phibes movies.
