I went back to Ohio
But my city was gone
There was no train station
There was no downtown
South Howard had disappeared
All my favorite places
My city had been pulled down
Reduced to parking spaces
A, o, way to go Ohio
Well I went back to Ohio
But my family was gone
I stood on the back porch
There was nobody home
I was stunned and amazed
My childhood memories
Slowly swirled past
Like the wind through the trees
A, o, oh way to go Ohio
I went back to Ohio
But my pretty countryside
Had been paved down the middle
By a government that had no pride
The farms of Ohio
Had been replaced by shopping malls
And Muzak filled the air
From Seneca to Cuyahoga falls
Said, a, o, oh way to go Ohio

After lunch we went to a place where I worked as a DJ for 5 years off and on and whenever I’d come through town I always stopped in for a pitcher of suds. Even after it closed it holds fond memories for many of its patrons, employees as well as my brother and i. A few years prior one of my favorite cowpunk acts Lydia Loveless, a Columbus area native shot an album cover in front of it. I discovered her work her in Chicago via Bloodshot Records
More Than a Bar: 15 Years After Last Call, Summit Station Gains a Historical Marker
The Ohio History Connection will dedicate its first LGBTQ+ historical marker in Columbus at the former site of Summit Station, once Ohio’s longest-running lesbian bar.
Summit Station patrons didn’t think they were making history on those packed Thursday nights between 1980 and 2008 when the weekends would start early with dancing and drinks. They didn’t think they were making history, either, when they shared pitchers of beer after softball games, formed a troupe of drag kings and organized coalitions to fight for women’s rights and safety.
But Ohio’s longest-running lesbian bar, far from forgotten 15 years after its last call, will be etched into Ohio history on June 10 with the dedication of a historical marker outside its old location at 2210 Summit St. in the University District. It’s the first of 128 state historical markers in and around Columbus to honor a place important to the LGBTQ+ community and just the third of more than 1,700 statewide. (A marker on W. 29th Street in Cleveland commemorates the location of the city’s first Pride celebration, and a marker near Dayton’s main library commemorates the birthplace of lesbian writer Natalie Clifford Barney.)

Andy Warhol Marilyn Monroe
The first of his screen prints, Andy Warhol’s Marilyn Monroe series (1967) are motley variations of the iconic actress. Except Andy Warhol’s Marilyn Diptych is half colorless, perhaps in response to her tragic end.
Andy Warhol* created three Marilyn Monroe* screen print portfolios in 1967, a few years after the actress passed away in 1962. The portfolio of 10 screen prints was one of the first prints Warhol printed and distributed through Factory Additions, New York. The name of this company reference to Warhol’s studio known as “The Factory”
