The Los Angeles-based punk/riot grrrl inspired band Sour Tongue have released a new single today entitled ‘Company Karaoke Party’ via Metropolis Records. “I was inspired to write this song by the absurd lengths I’ve witnessed people go to uphold a lie,” explains band co-founder and vocalist Satori Marill. “The onus of determining whether you should sympathise with ‘me’ throughout the song is placed solely on the listener because I’m an unreliable narrator by design.”

Marill adds that the fast and frenetic song is “one big contradiction constructed by moments of low-stakes vulnerability, guilt-tripping, gaslighting and callous apathy. If it sounds silly, that’s because it is. ‘Company Karaoke Party’ is a mandatory performance to save face with middle management, it’s entitlement without sacrifice, but above all else it’s meant to make you wanna dance!”

Sour Tongue was formed in 2020 by Marill and John Murphy, the mission of the alternative rock and grunge influenced quintet remaining the same since their inception: “when it stops being fun, we’ll end it.” Fusing disco with grunge, hardcore punk with country, plus much more, Sour Tongue utilise humour and a degree of sonic absurdity to carry a deeper message of angst and desperation.

The group have built a dedicated fanbase via several singles and two EP releases, the most recent of these being 2025’s ‘FINAL GIRL’ STREAM | BANDCAMP, which included ‘I Thought You Liked Me!’ VIDEO and ‘Me-Mania’ VIDEO.
