As the Resistance attempts to understand what they’ve recovered, a distress signal leads them to a massive crater under heavy Machine attack. Trapped inside is another group of survivors led by Zoë Marie Federoff. The Resistance enters the battle, helps destroy the Machines surrounding them, and brings Zoë’s people to safety.
Jason and his group along side of Zoe’s group make a decision that could change the course of the war: instead of simply destroying one of the massive Machines, they bring it down intact and begin salvaging its technology. Using salvaged optics, sensors, and mechanical components, the Resistance develops crude computerized glasses capable of seeing inside the Machines’ systems. For the first time, they can identify how the enemy thinks, how it functions—and how it can be hacked into, and destroyed.
For a brief moment, humanity reconnects. Food, medicine, ammunition, and supplies are shared. Wounds are treated. Hope returns. Zoë and her survivors eventually continue their journey, but their discovery proves something far greater: scattered across the devastated world, humanity is still alive—and still fighting.
