A cold, cinematic transmission from the end of the world
Marking a new collaboration, Town And Towers Records presents the first release with Swiss dark-synth duo CØLDSTAR. The band return on the Nordic synth label with their brand new single “Last Night On Earth”. A haunting journey into the final hours of humanity, seen from seven hundred miles above a dying planet.
There is no panic. No desperate attempt to save the world. No final prayer.
Only silence.
On “Last Night On Earth,” CØLDSTAR take the listener beyond the atmosphere and into a world where Earth has already become a memory. From the isolation of a spacecraft, the narrator watches the blue planet disappear behind glass as cities burn, oceans turn grey and the Moon slowly transforms the familiar world into an unrecognisable wasteland.

With its stark imagery and emotionally detached narrator, “Last Night On Earth” explores the strange calm that might exist when there is nothing left to save. Seven hundred miles above the chaos, the air is synthetic, the oxygen cycles mechanically, and the final connection to Earth is reduced to something distant and almost unreal.
Musically, CØLDSTAR create the perfect soundtrack for this cold farewell. Dark synth textures, pulsating electronic rhythms, melancholic melodies and an icy futuristic atmosphere, that show influence from VNV Nation and Black Nail Cabaret, turn the track into a cinematic voyage through darkness. It is simultaneously intimate and enormous. A human voice surrounded by the infinite emptiness of space.
The song’s central image is particularly striking: the Moon itself becomes a predator, slowly swallowing the light and leaving the cosmos beneath a “funeral glow.” Humanity’s greatest achievements become insignificant against the vastness of space.
And yet, there is something strangely beautiful in the destruction.
“A velvet curtain, and we’re not coming back.”
Rather than presenting the apocalypse as a dramatic spectacle, CØLDSTAR approach it with resignation. The narrator has accepted that the story is over. There will be no rescue, no return and no final chapter. Only the hum of the ship and the silence of the void.

ABOUT CØLDSTAR – FROM SWITZERLAND TO THE EDGE OF SPACE
Based in Bern, Switzerland, CØLDSTAR, Martin Baumann and Michael Freund, have developed a distinctive sound where darkwave, synthpop, coldwave and retro-futurism meet.
Their music draws heavily on the aesthetics of science fiction and the mysteries of the universe, using electronic music to explore themes of isolation, memory, technology, longing and human existence.
Following their early releases, including their 2021 interpretation of Nine Inch Nails’ “Hurt,” CØLDSTAR began establishing their own musical universe with the Coming Home EP in 2023.
