Filmmaker Matt Zane, director of the upcoming unauthorized documentary about Wayne Static and Tera Wray, recently shared an emotional moment with legendary rock icons KISS while filming for an upcoming project.
Following the shoot, Zane asked if he could speak personally with Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley. Knowing that Wayne Static’s favorite band was KISS, Zane felt compelled to share Wayne’s story, legacy, and lifelong admiration for the group.
“They were so gracious, kind, and patient as I told them about Wayne Static and how much he loved them,” said Zane. “I talked about what Wayne accomplished in his music career, the movie I was making about him and Tera, and how he would have loved to be there with me. Gene even recognized the name Static-X.”
During the encounter, Simmons and Stanley agreed to pose for a photo holding an original memorial poster honoring Wayne Static. According to Zane, the members of KISS also asked additional questions about Wayne and his life, making the experience especially meaningful.
“It was a really special moment I know Wayne would have loved,” Zane added. “Thank you to KISS for being amazing and understanding people.”
The upcoming documentary explores the lives, relationship, struggles, and legacy of Wayne Static and Tera Wray, offering an unfiltered look at two controversial figures whose story continues to resonate with fans around the world.
