VOX UMBRA’s Debut EP, ‘Unchained’ – A statement of stepping through darkness

Transcontinental darkwave duo, VOX UMBRA has unveiled their debut EP, Unchained; a collection of six songs that explore what it means to confront darkness and step through it.

Written and produced across two continents by Tiffany (Seattle, USA) and Florian (Amiens, France), the EP was born of late-night file transfers, dawn vocal takes, and a shared fascination with shadow and light. Each track exists in that liminal space –  where longing meets defiance, and beauty is sharpened by melancholy.Thematically, the record traces a journey: from isolation with a track like “Cold Heart”, disillusionment with “On The Right” to moments of spiritual reckoning in “Iron Serpent” and release with the title track, “Unchained”.

Throughout the EP, water and fire imagery run like threads – rivers that carry grief away, candle flames that refuse to go out – creating a world that feels cinematic and intimate at once.

Unchained is a story about breaking cycles: of grief, of silence, of the walls we build around ourselves. It is both a mirror and a torch — reflecting the shadows we live in and lighting a path forward.

Unchained is available on all major digital outlets including Spotify and Bandcamp.

VOX UMBRA is a transcontinental darkwave duo formed by Seattle-based songwriter and producer Tiffany and French metal vocalist Florian, known for his work with March of Scylla. The project blends ethereal textures, cinematic atmospheres, and emotionally charged vocals into a unique sound that exists between shadow and light.

What began as an unexpected connection through social media quickly evolved into a deeply collaborative creative partnership. Tiffany, searching for visual inspiration for her song “Scylla,” discovered the artwork of March of Scylla and was drawn not only to the imagery but to the band’s haunting sound. She reached out, unsure if her message would be seen — but Florian replied immediately.

A friendship rooted in shared musical obsessions followed. As they exchanged ideas, Florian offered to add vocals to one of Tiffany’s instrumental tracks. The result was unexpectedly electric. Their voices, though distinct, complemented one another perfectly. Soon after, Florian proposed working on a full EP together.

VOX UMBRA wrote, recorded, and produced their debut EP Unchained entirely online — from two separate countries, never having spoken in real time. The six-track release is a testament to the power of remote collaboration and artistic chemistry. With a sound that merges ghostly harmonies, heavy atmospheres, and emotionally raw lyricism, VOX UMBRA crafts music that is as immersive as it is intimate.

Their name — meaning “voice of the shadow” — reflects the core of their identity: music born from the in-between, created in darkness, but always reaching toward the light.
