I DIE: YOU DIE
US electronic musician and vocalist Mari Kattman has today (24th July) issued a video for ‘Typical Girl’, the opening song on her new album ‘Year Of The Katt’, released in late June by Metropolis Records. The clip was shot in downtown Providence (Rhode Island) by Mark Allison of @401FilmsPVD.
“Typical girl. People say it constantly, so much so it feels almost criminal to be female by birth,” Kattman states when explaining the meaning of the song. “Like it’s vulgar or something to carry characteristics that are even remotely female. That it makes you difficult, unlovable or crazy when it’s not packaged up and tied with a pretty bow or something. There are so many misunderstandings about what it is to be a woman.”
Establishing herself as a solo artist with the release of the albums ‘Hover’ (2016) and ‘Stay Up’ (2018), plus a number of singles and EPs, Kattman signed to Metropolis Records for the release of ‘Year Of The Katt’, which was preceded by the singles ‘Anemia’ and ‘Sharp Shooter’.
Of the album as a whole, she explains that “finishing it was a truly herculean effort. It was an album completely recorded, composed and produced by myself, so there were a lot of learning curves and things I needed to sort out before I was truly happy with the end product. I feel relief and enormously proud that I got it done.”
Kattman has recently announced a UK tour in October 2025 as the special guest of Assemblage 23, the electronic act founded in 1988 by Tom Shear, who is Kattman’s collaborator in the electronic duo Helix and her husband. Dates are as follows:
15th October BRISTOL Exchange
16th October MANCHESTER Rebellion
17th October GLASGOW Ivory Blacks
18th October SHEFFIELD Corporation
19th October LONDON The Dome (downstairs)

One of the most captivating artists on the current electronic scene, Kattman has been writing, recording, producing and performing since 2012. She has collaborated with the likes of Assemblage 23, Mesh, Ivardensphere, Jean-Marc Lederman, Psy’Aviah, Aesthetiche, Neuroticfish, BlackCarBurning, Cassetter, This Morn Omina, Solitary Experiments, Mephisto Walz, Aiboforcen, Interface, Comaduster and more.
Kattman’s impressive resumé of vocal contributions for these acts bely her own talents as a songwriter and producer. Singles such as ‘Fever Shakes’, ‘URGOD.AI’ and ‘Swallow’, all released prior to her signing with Metropolis Records, had already demonstrated her prowess in crafting hook-laden, irresistibly catchy electronic songs tailor-made for the dance floor, where elements of Trap, Hip Hop, Electro, Ambient, EBM and Industrial music interplay with her powerfully distinctive voice.
