Eva by Church of the Sea, releases on April 11th as the band’s sophomore album under the wonderfully inventive ‘doomgaze’ genre. The album is hypnotizing in its heavy yet melodic electronic beats and esoteric lyrics. Created with the vision of portraying Eve of the Bible re-imagined as a celebrated rebel, vocalist Irene’s voice is beautiful and haunting, sung both in Greek and English. There is an almost religious sensibility in the synths/piano used, which ties together the storyline and also lends itself to being an assumably good soundtrack for the God of War games. The guitar distortion, choral echoes, and minimal drums marry the sounds of doom and shoegaze staples to immerse the listener into a shadowy, celestial soundscape. My favorite song is ‘THE SIREN_S CHOICE,’ showcasing the great riffs and gothic drama crafted throughout the album. This spring release, produced by Alex Bolpasis in Suono Studios, is one to look forward to if you’re hoping to expand your musical tastes.
