In 2023, Projekt released the iconic Desolation and Radiation debut from DELREI, Italian Alessandro Mercanzin’s Spaghetti Western symphony of the post-apocalyptic west. The album of noir western desert blues was primarily a solo work. A year later the enigmatic guitarist and multi-instrumental did the unexpected: he brought a dusty wind-ravaged trio to the stage, performing captivating recreations of his studio ideas with the shadowy twang of electric guitars, spectral melodies, Giovanni Beghetto’s propulsive percussion, and Davide Dalla Pria’s driving bass all orchestrating a mythic western of the future.

As Alex preps the follow-up to his much-playlisted debut, Projekt brings you the live album Curtarock Festival. It showcases DELREI’s visionary neoromantic sound: a wordless chimera from the melancholic future.

Alex reflects, “It was so exciting to take this album I created in the studio and capture its essence on stage. It gives the music fresh life and a new energy. Curtarock Festival was our first show! Hearing this live album, it’s fantastic to relive that magical night. I love how the songs are reanimated: somehow playing live with a band is always a rock’n’roll experience and a proof of authenticity. I mean, hitting drums with sticks or plucking guitar strings without all the candy-precision of a studio album. I’m so pleased with what we achieved, we won’t forget the energy the crowd gave us. I think that influenced the way we played that night quite a lot.”

Italy’s Ondarock wrote about Desolation and Radiation: This is an ambitious instrumental album (in which) Mercanzin recreates desert sounds that only the guitar can achieve, combining the desert-rock atmospheres of Calexico, the soundtracks of Ennio Morricone with a dystopian science fiction background. Mercanzin handles the spaghetti western clichés with skill, giving a certain regularity to the whole, while in places country and more evocative moments (“Ensenada” or “Solitario”) are an enjoyable listen reminiscent of the nightclubs of Twin Peaks.
