January 29, 2025 (Austin, TX) —The Oxys from Austin, Texas join a who’s who punk rock line-up on the Cleopatra Records various artists compilation titled, Punk Rock Valentines. Artists like The Damned, Iggy Pop, The Vibrators, UK Subs, Dead Boys and more deliver 30 blistering anti-love songs. Available as a 2CD set or on Red Marble vinyl, pre-order HERE.
The first single from the comp drops today in the form of arena rock band Journey‘s love ballad “Open Arms” as interpreted by The Oxys, listen HERE. Band co-founder Jason “Ginchy” Kottwitz says “It was very generous of Cleopatra to extend an invitation including us to this compilation. Lots of great bands and artists we look up to are represented. It’s quite an honor to be among them. At any rate, the list of songs we got to choose from was hideous. It felt like a cruel joke to be perfectly honest. I spent two days reviewing all the possibilities. There was only one song that I felt I could make sound like a song by The Oxys. If someone would have suggested I’d be covering a Journey song ten years ago, I would have slapped them, but here we are!! We immediately went into the rehearsal space, worked the cover up, and banged it out in the studio. It took us longer to pick a song than it did to work it up, record it, and mix it.”
The Oxys began back in 2021 when Ginchy (Dead Boys, Sylvain Sylvain and the Sylvains) and frontman Phil Davis managed to smash the monotony of pandemic life by channeling their collective energy into music and creativity. By December of 2022, they put out their first full length record, A Date With The Oxys (Dead Beat Records). Following much critical acclaim for their debut, they delivered Generation Irrelevant just 12-months later, again garnishing favorable worldwide press. With drummer Chris Alaniz, guitarist Genocide, and bassist Michael Harpel filling out the line-up, the band is ready to hit the road in 2025. Dates already confirmed are listed below and will be updated HERE.
