“The heat is coming down and I’m not laughing. I pulled my trigger, I’m blasting for action. I jumped into the saddle, I’m not walking. I’m sick of this town and all it’s talking. This city has no heart!”

I arrived back at home just before 12 noon on Monday 11/13/2023 after a long and unrestful weekend. I’m obviously out of practice or I’m turning 59 “years of old” in less than 1 month. Maybe it’s both. Hell I really can’t explain how I’ve managed to have done what I have. But I did and I’m still here.

I carried my bags into the bedroom and logged onto to my work computer to work a half day due to me waking up in Montgomery around 630 AM with severe heartburn. I had swallowed 2 packs of Tums/Rolaids during the concert the night before. I’ve been suffering more acid reflux than usual and I believe it’s been the change of my diet. Saturday evening at the Alamo Drafthouse with Amy who joined me to see “Priscilla” it hit me hard and I had not brought any relief and my throat was dry leading to some uncomfortable coughing during the last half of the film. Monday morning it was unbearable and coffee was out of the question. I layed on Bob’s leather sofa for about 90 minutes before I could get dressed. At just before 9 AM I ordered an Uber to the Aurora Metra Station bought a ticket home and drank 2 Canada Dry Ginger Ales in order to help curb my heartburn and I had to wait till 10 AM for a 90 minute ride back into the city.

I began to work and didn’t even shower that day. I got thru the afternoon and was exhausted and managed eat a little before falling to sleep at 630 PM and slept till almost 7 AM on Tuesday the 14th. I slept 12 hours and according to Bob he did the same thing. Thank you Larry Goone for the edibles from Michigan.

11/10/2023 Culver’s Curdburger:

Deluxe ButterBurger including lettuce, tomato, pickles, red onion and mayo, topped with a crispy cheese curd shaped as a patty.

“The cheese crown is made of a blend of yellow and white cheddar cheese curds, all surrounded by crispy seasoned breadcrumbs – making for a perfect cheesy topping to the classic ButterBurger guests know and love,” according to the sandwich’s description.

Saturday Nov 11th I met up with Amy at the Alamo Drafthouse in Wrigleyville where we saw the movie Priscilla. It was a brisk night not too bad to be outside. The movie went by quickly and it was really nice spending what little time I could with my kindred spirit. I knew I’d be seeing her again in a month for the MK ULTRA Christmas show at Live Wire Lounge. I would head directly home and go directly to sleep. I had a long day the next day travelling out to the burbs for another Faster Pussycat show at my favorite venue outside of Chicago.

A new Alamo Drafthouse opened in Wrigleyville, the cinema chain’s first location in Chicago. The six-screen movie theater is dedicated to late filmmaker John Hughes.

His son James Hughes was in attendance for the grand opening Thursday to introduce a screening of “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off,” telling the audience about his father’s connection to the Lakeview neighborhood where the new theater now sits, less than a block from Wrigley Field.

“This was an important corridor for my father in terms of his location photography in this city. I think people would think first and foremost of Ferris Bueller and his friends at Wrigley,” Hughes said. “But lest we forget, this was also the hometown neighborhood of Uncle Buck. Another John Candy feature ‘Only the Lonely’ which my father produced…the house [in that film] was just a short walk from here.”

Hughes mentioned the historic Music Box Theatre and a now-closed nearby coffee shop where his father would anonymously write.

The 30,000 square-foot theater has 373 seats and features several homages to Hughes, a majority of whose iconic movies are set in Chicago and were filmed in the north suburbs. From holiday classics “Home Alone” and “Christmas Vacation” to high school staples “The Breakfast Club” and “Sixteen Candles,” Hughes films have a quintessentially Chicago flavor, which the new location leans into.

Early morning Sunday November 12th. I got to Union Station via 2 trains and a short walk. I had about an hour wait at the train station to take the hour plus ride on yet another train to Aurora where I met up with Bob who drove us to Oswego at dine at Asadoras. The ride was comfortable and generally quiet so I was able to get some quality reading accomplished.

We walked in and were greeted with hugs from the owner Kristen who appreciates our business and is always friendly and full of life. The kind of service that keeps ya coming back. Of course I had to order the Fire Burger which WOW did not disappoint.

We got to the venue with enough time to mix and mingle with other concert goers. It was a triple bill. I walked across the street where John and Drew from I LOVE RICH had been hanging out with Chad Stewart the drummer and tour manager for Faster Pussycat. I caught up with old friend Jason Miller who I had not seen in person since 2002 in Hollywood at the Key Club in his GODHEAD days. And made a new friend in Robin and reconnected with a crew I had met the previous June for Faster Pussycat. Turns out they are practically neighbors and last summer opened a bar in Jefferson Park where I promised to be the following Sunday after another Faster Pussycat show in Joliet.

I would learn that Eric Mills sang b.vox on the Gun n Roses cover of Fears “I Don’t Care About You” from the Spaghettis Incident album.
