Gary Wilson achieved enduring cult status in 1977 with his classic album, You Think You Really Know Me, and has since been name checked by Beck in “Where It’s At,” sampled by Earl Sweatshirt, featured on the hit TV show Narcos, and shared billing with Foxygen, Ariel Pink, R. Stevie Moore, Black Lips, and Dan Deacon just to name a few. Now this musical icon is bringing a fresh set of infectious grooves, freaky lyrics and creepy melodies on his brand new studio album, The Marshmallow Man.
Set for release on August 18, on all formats including CD and vinyl, The Marshmallow Man returns Wilson to the squishy, feel-good bedroom pop that has become an endearing part of his complex performance persona. The album’s first single, “The Lonely Bird,” epitomizes the album’s overall vibe and direction, where slinky guitar melodies bounce along with synths and subtly sophisticated percussion.
