Infinity Pool

review by Paul J Baio

Infinity Pool is a SciFi Horror film written and directed by Brandon Cronenberg, son of David. This is his third feature, and where I didn’t like his first two, Antiviral (about a guy who sells celebrity illnesses to obsessed fans), and Possessor (about an organization using brain implants to turn people into assassins), I disliked Infinity Pool just as much. A writer searching for inspiration and his wealthy wife take a holiday at a remote island resort. They are warned to never leave the resort as the rest of the island isn’t very friendly. They of course ignore this warning, and upon the accidental killing of a local farmer, the husband is sentenced to death. They are offered a way out through cloning, by having the clone executed instead. This leads to countless shots of Alexander Skarsgård’s ass, and an occasional naked Mia goth. There’s more to it than that, and it could have gone in so many cool directions, but sadly doesn’t. Perhaps Brandon Cronenberg’s brand of SciFi is just too hardcore for me. It is better than Skinamarink and Halloween Ends.
