Movie Review: 65

Review by Paul J. Baio

Here’s the thing with 65… at its base it’s a good survival SciFi action film with heart. On the surface, it deals with coping with loss and finding hope. Where it goes wrong is the whole 65 million BC thing. For one, the protagonists don’t even know they’re in 65 million BC. They’re from a colonized planet in the distant future… therefore, they’ve never seen a dinosaur let alone, know what a dinosaur is. The dinosaurs to them are just alien creatures. The filmmakers could have easily had them crash-land on any planet with alien creatures. The second problem is… (POSSIBLE SPOILERS AHEAD) if they went through a wormhole that sent them that far back in time, how can the distress call they sent be received? I don’t know but the call is received and a rescue ship is dispatched. Said rescue ship must have also found the same wormhole…, although, we don’t even know how they exactly ended up in 65 million BC, as this is never explained. But wait…, not only do our protagonists have to deal with dinosaurs, they conveniently crashed a couple days before the asteroid that killed the dinosaurs hits Earth. In short, 65 can be best described as Jurassic Park in space or Planet of the Apes with dinosaurs. In the end, I was entertained but it could have been better movie had they made better choices.
