L.A. Guns frontman Phil Lewis was recently interviewed by Shannon Wilks for Rockin’ Interviews. Lewis was promoting L.A. Guns upcoming new studio album Black Diamonds, which will be released via Frontiers Music Srl on April 14, 2023. This will be the fourth L.A. Guns full-length studio album featuring Lewis and guitarist Tracii Guns since the duo officially reunited as “L.A. Guns” in December 2016.
In terms of his relationship with Guns, Lewis indicated (as provided by Rockin’ Interviews): “The reunion was about six years ago and the way we were then was very similar to the early days when I joined the band. We’d spent a long time apart, we hadn’t spoken to each other in 15 years and that’s so crazy. Our objective is to make up for lost time which is why we banged out four records in five years. We have a reputation of going through band members like Kleenex, I think we’re up to like 58 members that can say they’ve been in L.A. Guns, but at the end of the day it just comes down to two and that’s me and him (Tracii Guns).”
With respect to the upcoming album from Riley’s L.A. Guns, Lewis stated: “No (I don’t believe there is competition there). I don’t believe there are two L.A. Guns, there’s Riley’s L.A. Guns… give me a break. They put something together for all the wrong reasons and it was annoying but we dealt with it and it’s gone away. There was no doubt that they were going to continue as L.A. Guns and it had to be sorted out because that would’ve been a big problem. At that point we were four years into the reunion, we put out these great records, we’re making great progress and that came along and could’ve fucked everything up. I’m not bothered about it in the slightest.
