\u2018Catwalk\u2019 is the sweltering, claustrophobic new video from Chicago duo [melter]<\/a>: Jax Allos<\/strong> and Robert Hyman<\/strong>. Premiering exclusively on Post-punk.com, the new video follows the July release of their \u2018blacklist\u2019 single<\/a> and video<\/a>, and a July-August tour with Hemlock for Socrates<\/a>; while [melter]<\/a> now prepare to embark on the Imperfect Waves Tour<\/a> of the US East Coast with Plasmata<\/a> and 2 Forks<\/a>. Originally, vocalist and lyricist Jax Allos<\/strong> hadn\u2019t planned to discuss the song\u2019s subject matter publicly, until realizing that the scheduled release date also coincided with Suicide Prevention Month. Jax says: <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe subject matter is suicide. What really helped me in that moment was writing down my thoughts and feelings, and eventually I crafted those into lyrics. [melter] entered my life at a pivotal time. \u2018Catwalk\u2019 was the first [melter] song I wrote lyrics for, and what started as a very difficult, challenging subject ultimately became a positive experience. [melter] made me feel welcome and really helped me find my voice. It has allowed me to reconnect with those aspects of my life that I needed so badly and, in its way, it saved my life.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Described as \u201ca sonic disturbance made of flesh, blood, and machine\u201d and \u201chot enough to liquify the living\u201d, [melter]<\/a> are usually known for their molten fusion of industrial, dark alt. rock, punk and noise elements. \u2018Catwalk\u2019, however, sees [melter]<\/a> take a moodier, darker post-punk approach, recalling the gothic grandeur of The Cure\u2019s Pornography<\/em> and Disintegration<\/em> albums. Project founder, drummer, and multi-instrumentalist Rob Hyman<\/strong> elaborates:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWithin our repertoire, \u2018Catwalk\u2019 has an ambient feel \u2013 it\u2019s dreamier and more abstract. The music for \u2018Catwalk\u2019 excited me. The rhythmic track is built off of piano sounds, believe it or not, and it has this overwhelming rumble to it that I really wanted to hear blasted over a PA at high volume.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following previous videos for \u2018blacklist<\/a>\u2019, \u2018DAM<\/a>\u2019, and \u2018The Golem<\/a>\u2019, \u2018Catwalk\u2019 is the first video created entirely by [melter]<\/a> themselves, during the downtime between touring. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
