Kiss bassist Gene Simmons sat down with Rockast to add new words to his \u2018rock is dead\u2019 theory. During the interview, the rocker touched on the lack of iconic musicians in today\u2019s music such as The Beatles. He said:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe problem is you can download and fileshare and the artists get nothing. So before the internet and before downloading and filesharing from 1958 to 1988 is 30 years. You have Elvis, The Beatles, Rolling Stones Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix and many things. In disco you had Madonna, in the heavy stuff you had Metallica, AC\/DC, Iron Maiden, you had all the heavy [music.] In black music, you had Motown, a lot of exciting things.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He then explained today\u2019s music and claimed that there was no such band as The Beatles today:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cFrom 1988 until today where are the new Beatles? Where\u2019s Elvis? So once you don\u2019t pay for something the new artists can\u2019t quit their job. You have to stop working at a regular job so you can put in the time to become really good at what you do and that takes a lot of time. But if you can\u2019t pay the bills, there\u2019s not enough money when you put out new music on the internet, you make nothing.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It started when Simmons claimed rock was dead back in 2014. In his chat with Esquire, he said:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOnce you had a record company on your side, they would fund you, and that also meant when you toured they would give you tour support. There are still record companies, and it does apply to pop, rap, and country to an extent. But for performers who are also songwriters \u2014 the creators \u2014 for rock music, for the soul, for the blues \u2014 it\u2019s finally dead. The point is, yeah,\u00a0rock is dead.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He also added the same words he said during the recent interview. Since then, the bassist has been repeating those words in various interviews to make it clear that rock and roll is dead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Simmons has been supporting the rock is dead theory for a decade. In fact, his famous claim sparked a debate in the music industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Many rockers disagreed with Simmons\u2019 claims, including Scorpions and Justin Hawkins. They argued that rock music is here to stay and it doesn\u2019t suddenly fade away.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Billy Sheehan joined in, saying rock continues to hold its ground in the music scene. He also explained that music genres don\u2019t just disappear overnight thanks to musicians\u2019 dedication. He highlighted that although it\u2019s not as mainstream as other genres in TV and radio, it still plays a big role in people\u2019s daily lives.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
