I have loved you all so much and enjoyed making art for you.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-4-3 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<div class=\"nv-iframe-embed\"><iframe title=\"Pee-Wee&#039;s Playhouse - Innuendo and Adult Humor - Part 1\" width=\"1200\" height=\"900\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/PVFB4lKjIQU?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" id=\"mntl-sc-block_1-0-9\">On Monday, a rep for Reubens revealed that the television icon had died as the news was also&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/CvXme4ZxAR0\/?img_index=2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">posted<\/a>&nbsp;on Reubens&#8217; official Instagram for Pee-wee.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" id=\"mntl-sc-block_1-0-11\">&#8220;Last night we said farewell to Paul Reubens, an iconic American actor, comedian, writer and producer whose beloved character Pee-wee Herman delighted generations of children and adults with his positivity, whimsy and belief in the importance of kindness,&#8221; it read.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" id=\"mntl-sc-block_1-0-13\">&#8220;Paul bravely and privately fought cancer for years with his trademark tenacity and wit,&#8221; the statement continued. &#8220;A gifted and prolific talent, he will forever live in the comedy pantheon and in our hearts as a treasured friend and man of remarkable character and generosity of spirit.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" id=\"mntl-sc-block_1-0-19\">Reubens debuted Pee-wee Herman at The Groundlings Theatre in 1981 before landing a spot on HBO\u2019s broadcast and went on to play the character on the big screen in 1985&#8217;s&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/people.com\/tim-burton-paul-reubens-tribute-after-his-death-at-70-from-cancer-7567765\"><em>Pee-wee\u2019s Big Adventure<\/em><\/a>&nbsp;and the 1988 sequel&nbsp;<em>Big Top Pee-wee<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" id=\"mntl-sc-block_1-0-21\">On the small screen,&nbsp;<em>Pee-wee\u2019s Playhouse<\/em>&nbsp;ran on CBS for five seasons from 1986 to 1990.&nbsp;The show went on to earn 22 Emmy Awards, and Reubens was personally nominated for 14 nominations, winning twice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/mkultramagazine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/Paul-Reubens-featured.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4465\" width=\"810\" height=\"354\" srcset=\"https:\/\/mkultramagazine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/Paul-Reubens-featured.png 707w, https:\/\/mkultramagazine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/Paul-Reubens-featured-300x131.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 810px) 100vw, 810px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" id=\"mntl-sc-block_1-0-28\">In 2016, Reubens opened up to PEOPLE about&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/people.com\/tv\/pee-wee-herman-paul-reubens-on-returning-in-new-netflix-movie\/\">needing a break<\/a>&nbsp;from the child-like character after the peak of his success.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" id=\"mntl-sc-block_1-0-30\">\u201cI went out of my way for quite some time to try and make people think that he was a real person and there wasn\u2019t an actor behind it all,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" id=\"mntl-sc-block_1-0-32\">\u201cI never said, \u2018I don\u2019t want to be Pee-wee anymore.\u2019 I loved what I was doing,\u201d he added. \u201cBut I needed a break.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" id=\"mntl-sc-block_1-0-34\">He affirmed, \u201cI get to do something I love, that I created and that I made all the rules up to. It\u2019s been fantastic.
