This will be the band\u2019s first show in M\u00e9xico in more-than 25 years, since their now-legendary sold-out shows between 1995 and 1997. As a teaser for the upcoming show, <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/utmmusic.us1.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=a0a668707fd79de0d56e08772&amp;id=60b8c8947d&amp;e=28b14f177e\" target=\"_blank\">The Wake<\/a> recently shared live rehearsal footage of their 1995 hit single \u2018Christine\u2019 with fans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<div class=\"nv-iframe-embed\"><iframe title=\"The Wake at VMS 16 07 23\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/6ciwxDtx5EE?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The song holds special significance for the band and their Mexican fans, due to the original video for \u2018Christine\u2019 being shot in and around CDMX during their first visit in 1995. <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/utmmusic.us1.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=a0a668707fd79de0d56e08772&amp;id=167a203ba6&amp;e=28b14f177e\" target=\"_blank\">The Wake<\/a> frontman and co-founder <strong>Troy Payne<\/strong> recently told CDMX-based DJ \/ interviewer <strong>Jon\u00e1s IH<\/strong>, of the <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/utmmusic.us1.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=a0a668707fd79de0d56e08772&amp;id=40cd0c97b9&amp;e=28b14f177e\" target=\"_blank\">Winterm\u00fcte<\/a> podcast:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201c\u2026Christine put us on the map in a couple of different ways. It was both a club hit and a radio hit, which was something of a first for us. The video garnered quite a bit of play as well, so that was all pretty cool (\u2026) it was also lots of fun. We were young and filming a video in what for us was an exotic location \u2013 what&#8217;s not to like?\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-4-3 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<div class=\"nv-iframe-embed\"><iframe title=\"THE WAKE - Christine\" width=\"1200\" height=\"900\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Um_tRg-cGg0?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Meanwhile, that first Mexican show at Rockotitl\u00e1n, CDMX, 1995, was recently described by Guadalajara-based interviewer and radio DJ <strong>Juan Heredia<\/strong> (host of <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/utmmusic.us1.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=a0a668707fd79de0d56e08772&amp;id=e7fe148f8a&amp;e=28b14f177e\" target=\"_blank\">El Punto de la Aurora<\/a>, and <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/utmmusic.us1.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=a0a668707fd79de0d56e08772&amp;id=cae6bdc98c&amp;e=28b14f177e\" target=\"_blank\">Radio Subterr\u00e1nea<\/a>) as \u201ca turning point, one of the key pieces that inspired and gave strength to what is now the Goth scene in M\u00e9xico.\u201d This becomes abundantly clear from live footage of the show:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-4-3 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<div class=\"nv-iframe-embed\"><iframe title=\"The Wake -  Nazarene live mexico\" width=\"1200\" height=\"900\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/k-RVVBhVnjw?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/utmmusic.us1.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=a0a668707fd79de0d56e08772&amp;id=62b3dbbdb1&amp;e=28b14f177e\" target=\"_blank\">The Wake<\/a>\u2019s return to M\u00e9xico comes on the back of landmark shows in New Jersey and Madrid, between October and November 2022: the band\u2019s first live outings since 1999.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<div class=\"nv-iframe-embed\"><iframe title=\"THE WAKE - Shideshow - Madrid 04\/11\/2022\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/VIjXqoVbYqU?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table\"><table><tbody><tr><td>Ahead of the US and Spanish shows, Troy also spoke to <a href=\"https:\/\/utmmusic.us1.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=a0a668707fd79de0d56e08772&amp;id=2a0bf06d76&amp;e=28b14f177e\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Post-punk.com<\/a> about the band\u2019s love for their Mexican audience:<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>\u201cOur Mexican fans are really something to behold. They don\u2019t get cheated \u2013 they come to rock out and they do just that.\u201d<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Asked by M\u00e9xico\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/utmmusic.us1.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=a0a668707fd79de0d56e08772&amp;id=614b976b45&amp;e=28b14f177e\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Sound and Vision M\u00fasica<\/a> why returning to M\u00e9xico is so important to the group, Troy replied:<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>\u201cPlaying M\u00e9xico was a priority for one reason \u2013 history (\u2026) The shows we played in M\u00e9xico were beyond special, for sure, and it was all about the fans. As I\u2019ve said before, Mexican concert goers don\u2019t just attend, they participate. Their passion is on full display before, during, and after the show. If you want to feel like Elvis, or The Beatles \u2013 go play M\u00e9xico.\u201d<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Formed by <strong>Troy Payne<\/strong> and guitarist <strong>Rich Witherspoon<\/strong> between 1985 and 1986, while both were still at high school in Columbus, Ohio, <a href=\"https:\/\/utmmusic.us1.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=a0a668707fd79de0d56e08772&amp;id=f3bbcba387&amp;e=28b14f177e\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The Wake<\/a> is currently playing with their \u201cclassic\u201d 1989-1994 line-up, which also includes drummer Daniel C.(<a href=\"https:\/\/utmmusic.us1.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=a0a668707fd79de0d56e08772&amp;id=b3756dd6dd&amp;e=28b14f177e\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">2 Forks<\/a>), and bassist James Tramel (<a href=\"https:\/\/utmmusic.us1.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=a0a668707fd79de0d56e08772&amp;id=25ea0d9195&amp;e=28b14f177e\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">October Burns Black<\/a>).
