Taboo-breaker Tom Six decries film’s fascist edit (but where are his peers?)<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

It must take a lot to rattle Tom Six.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The director of \u201cThe Human Centipede\u201d franchise wallows in repulsive material. That trilogy alone is marked by gruesome visuals few films could duplicate. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Even shooting \u201cThe Human Centipede 2 (Full Sequence)\u201d in black and white didn\u2019t diminish Six\u2019s signature ick factor or his satirical appetites.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The first film in the trilogy left\u00a0Roger Ebert unable to review it i<\/a>n his usual fashion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The star rating system is unsuited to this film. Is the movie good? Is it bad? Does it matter? It is what it is and occupies a world where the stars don\u2019t shine.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Yet Six is aghast that someone, either Disney or another party with rights over the film in question,\u00a0censored the 1971 Best Picture winner \u201cThe French Connection.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hollywood-Elsewhere broke the story<\/a> in recent days, teaming with the site\u2019s readers to share how the censorship in question didn\u2019t happen once. Both The Criterion Channel and Turner Classic Movies are streaming an edited version of the film without telling audiences about the change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The sequence in question involves the film\u2019s lead, Popeye Doyle (Gene Hackman), spouting ethnic slurs to his colleague.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Six shared his disgust at the scene\u2019s removal on social media.<\/p>\n\n\n

Six hasn\u2019t directed a released film since \u201cThe Human Centipede 3: Final Sequence\u201d in 2015. He says his most recent project, \u201cThe Onania Club<\/a>,\u201d can\u2019t find a distribution<\/a> due to its incendiary material.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The film reportedly follows a group of women who find sexual stimulation from tragedy, including footage from the 9\/11 attacks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He still understands why art must be protected. He also is willing to stand up to the modern-day censors without fear of reprisal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s noteworthy that few, if any, of his peers have similarly criticized the film\u2019s censorship.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
