It\u2019s a collection of rare, live recordings, made in a small Chicago bedroom during the winter of 1987-88. The 13 songs, jams and grooves highlight TKK\u2019s industrial origins, featuring heavily distorted vocals, jack hammer percussion sounds, and a good ol\u2019 dose of Satanic adoration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Buzz McCoy<\/strong>\u00a0explains \u201cThese tapes were working ideas&#8230; our first few jams together. We hadn\u2019t really begun writing songs yet. Many times Groovie had no lyrics and would make them up as he went. We had no multi track recorder. Everything was mixed \u201con the fly\u201d to a cassette deck with a 12-channel mixing board, while I attempted to play samples, keyboards and occasionally bass at the same time. Many of the tracks aren\u2019t mixed at all. They were spontaneous live recordings for reference, but looking back, they don\u2019t sound half as bad as I thought. Records<\/strong>\u00a0stable of artists, MY LIFE WITH THE THRILL KILL KULT have been conjuring up sonic tales of sex, blasphemy and kitschy horror since 1987. The band helped develop the industrial music genre, yet have continued to expand their style, creating one of the most diverse repertoires in modern music. Electronic rock, heavily influenced by both disco and funk can best describe their sound, while spoken-word samples lifted from B-movies gives the band their signature mark. They have released 14 studio albums, a slew of remix compilations, and have contributed to a variety of soundtracks and film scores, including a cameo performance in the 1994 cult movie classic\u00a0<strong>The Crow.<\/strong><br><br>Artist\u00a0<strong>Franke Nardiello<\/strong>\u00a0and musician\u00a0<strong>Marston Daley<\/strong>, two Chicago neighbors who enjoyed late night binges watching trashy exploitation films and horror flicks, wanted to make their own movie to be called \u201cMy Life With The Thrill Kill Kult\u201d. While the project never came to fruition, they wrote some music to be the accompanying soundtrack. Both worked at the Wax Trax record store, and when label founders\u00a0<strong>Jim Nash<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>Dannie Flesher<\/strong>\u00a0heard the songs, they were intrigued. Using the film title as the name of the band, they released a 3-song EP in early 1988. The response was overwhelming, and it was clear fans wanted to hear more.<br><br>Taking the stage names\u00a0<strong>Groovie Mann<\/strong>\u00a0(Nardiello) and\u00a0<strong>Buzz McCoy<\/strong>\u00a0(Daley), the duo began to focus on music full time. They created an occult meets leather biker image to compliment the band\u2019s name which included enlisting a bevy of voluptuous back-up singers \/ dancers known as the\u00a0<strong>BOMB GANG GIRLZ<\/strong>. In June of \u201988, they flew to label mate\u00a0<strong>Luc Van Acker\u2019s<\/strong>\u00a0studio in Belgium to record their first album,\u00a0<strong><em>I See Good Spirits and I See Bad Spirits<\/em><\/strong>. It was recorded in just ten days, and mixed in another ten days at\u00a0<strong>Southern Studios<\/strong>\u00a0in London. The fans ate it up! They followed up with two hard-hitting dance floor 12\u201d tracks &#8211;\u00a0<strong><em>Kooler Than Jesus<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0(1989) and\u00a0<strong><em>Cuz It\u2019s Hot<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0(1990), which features no-wave chanteuse\u00a0<strong>Lydia Lunch<\/strong>\u00a0on vocals. The New York Times wrote, \u201c<em>Sex, blasphemy, big beats and go-go dancing; they\u2019re all in a day\u2019s work for My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult<\/em>\u201d. This attracted the attention of indie fans, as well as the ire of the PMRC and conservative religious groups in practically equal measure. By the time of their sophomore release,\u00a0<strong><em>Confessions Of A Knife<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0(1990), they were far and away one of the biggest selling acts on the label.<br><br>1991 saw the release of their third album,\u00a0<strong><em>Sexplosion!<\/em><\/strong>, a calculated sonic and visual departure from their previous work. 1950\u2019s pin-up models replaced the demonic imagery, while sleazy stripper horns, disco beats and house diva vocals (provided by artist\u00a0<strong>Shawn Christopher<\/strong>) took prominence over the more abrasive musical elaments.They put together a provocative stage show, complete with spinning police lights, mirror balls and a stocked bar with bartender to serve the scantily clad musicians and dancers while they performed.\u00a0<strong>Alternative Press<\/strong>\u00a0reviewed the show as \u201cSin-sational!\u201d, while\u00a0<strong>Melody Maker<\/strong>\u00a0described it as \u201cA Cabaret from Hell\u201d. It was a huge success, and the album sold so well (fueled by the phenomenal radio hit \u201cSex On Wheelz\u201d) that the group signed a deal with\u00a0<strong>Interscope Records<\/strong>\u00a0shortly afterwards and released two more albums &#8211;\u00a0<strong><em>13 Above the Night<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0(1993), and\u00a0<strong><em>Hit &amp; Run Holiday<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0(1995).<br>Hollywood also embraced the KULT, recognizing the unique cinematic aspect in their sound. Most notably, the band scored five songs for animator\u00a0<strong>Ralph Bakshi\u2019s Cool World<\/strong>\u00a0(1992) and wrote the lap dance song for director\u00a0<strong>Paul Verhoven&#8217;s<\/strong>\u00a0saucy\u00a0 <strong>Showgirls<\/strong>\u00a0(1993). Comedies\u00a0<strong>BASEketball<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>The Flintstones Movie<\/strong>\u00a0prominently feature songs from the\u00a0<strong><em>Hit &amp; Run Holiday<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0album. They have been roasted by\u00a0<strong>MTV\u2019s Beavis &amp; Butthead<\/strong>, and were written into the story line of the film\u00a0<strong>Sexy Evil Genius<\/strong>\u00a0which also features the song &#8220;A Daisy Chain 4 Satan\u201d. They continue to work with Wax Trax! Records for the purpose of re-issuing special limited edition vinyl.
