L.A. Guns<\/strong> guitarist and founder Tracii Guns<\/strong> was recently interviewed by Jimmy Kay<\/strong> and Alan Dixon<\/strong> for Canada\u2019s The Metal Voice<\/strong>. Guns<\/strong> was promoting L.A. Guns<\/strong>\u2018 upcoming new studio album Black Diamonds<\/em>, which will be released via Frontiers Music Srl<\/strong> on April 14, 2023<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When asked how long he was a member of Guns N\u2019 Roses <\/strong>in the early years, Guns<\/strong> recalled (as provided by The Metal Voice<\/strong> with slight edits): \u201cA year. Axl<\/strong> [Rose<\/strong>] was singing for L.A. Guns<\/strong>. We did a gig. There was a big throw down with our manager based on a big throw down with another band we played with that night. Our manager fired Axl<\/strong> but we all lived together. We sat on the couch and decided what we were going to do next and it was Guns N\u2019 Roses<\/strong>. That\u2019s all we did, we just changed the name and we added Izzy<\/strong> [Stradlin<\/strong>].\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With respect to whether they were rehearsing the early Guns N\u2019 Roses<\/strong> material that we know today, Guns<\/strong> indicated: \u201cWe were playing them in L.A. Guns<\/strong>, a lot of those songs. Songs like \u201cDon\u2019t Cry\u201d, \u201cAnything Goes\u201d, \u201cThink About You\u201d \u2014  a bunch of them.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In terms of whether he helped in the arrangements and compositions of the early Guns N\u2019 Roses<\/strong> songs, Guns<\/strong> stated: \u201cYeah, some of them because me and Izzy<\/strong> lived together so by the time we had Guns N\u2019 Roses<\/strong>, when basically he joined L.A. Guns<\/strong>, Izzy<\/strong> had some of those songs that they had played in Hollywood Rose<\/strong>. Because earlier, Izzy<\/strong> and Axl<\/strong> were in a band called Hollywood Rose<\/strong> and when Slash<\/strong> was in Hollywood Rose<\/strong>, they wrote \u201cWelcome To The Jungle\u201d. But for some reason, when we got together as Guns N\u2019 Roses<\/strong>, we didn\u2019t play \u201cWelcome In The Jungle\u201d. I don\u2019t know why. I don\u2019t remember but that was always a favorite song of mine that they had. When I was in the band [Guns N\u2019 Roses<\/strong>], we were heavier than what people know as Guns N\u2019 Roses<\/strong> now. It wasn\u2019t as blues based. It was a little bit more metal. So more straight ahead, more L.A. Guns<\/strong>-ish really.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
