Industrial music icons STATIC-X<\/strong> have partnered with master costume\/prop maker Eddie Yang<\/strong> and his Deity Creative<\/strong> to evolve the look for guitarist\/vocalist Xer0<\/strong>. Yang<\/strong> is a movie industry veteran known for his work with “Avatar”<\/strong>, “Iron Man”<\/strong>, “Man Of Steel”<\/strong>, “The Amazing Spider-Man”<\/strong>, “Robocop”<\/strong> and “Terminator: Salvation”<\/strong>, to name just a few. Eddie<\/strong> got his start working with Academy Award<\/strong> winners Rick Baker<\/strong> and Stan Winston<\/strong> before branching out on his own in 2006 with Deity Creative<\/strong>. The updated Xer0<\/strong> look \u2014 including the new mask and wardrobe \u2014 was the result of a collaboration between DOPE<\/strong> frontman and creative director Edsel Dope<\/strong> \u2014 who is widely believed to be Xer0<\/strong> \u2014 and Ed McDonough<\/strong> from ECCO Studios<\/strong> and Eddie Yang<\/strong>. The idea for the new mask and overall image update was born out of a desire from STATIC-X<\/strong> to evolve Xer0<\/strong>‘s look to match the theme of the “Rise Of The Machine”<\/strong> tour. Xer0<\/strong> will unveil his new look live on February 25 in San Francisco, California.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Says\u00a0Yang<\/strong>: “I have always been a metal fan and have listened to\u00a0STATIC-X<\/strong>\u00a0since their first release\u00a0‘Wisconsin Death Trip’<\/strong>. I am honored to contribute to\u00a0Wayne<\/strong>‘s [Static<\/strong>, late\u00a0STATIC-X<\/strong>\u00a0frontman] legacy and to work with the band on their incredible vision for evolving\u00a0STATIC-X<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Xer0<\/strong>\u00a0into something that is truly unique. This project finally combined my passion for character design and metal music into one big check-off the bucket list.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Eddie<\/strong> is a genius” says Xer0<\/strong>. “We wanted to evolve the Xer0<\/strong> character into a more cybernetic\/robotic figure for the ‘Rise Of The Machine’<\/strong> tour and Eddie<\/strong> absolutely fucking killed it!!!!!!!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Eddie<\/strong> took the mask to a level that we never imagined possible, and we are so stoked with the result,” adds bassist Tony Campos<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

STATIC-X<\/strong>‘s eighth studio album,\u00a0“Project Regeneration: Vol. 2”<\/strong>, is scheduled for release on November 3. The LP is a collection of 13 brand-new songs that contain the final vocal performances and musical compositions of founding vocalist\u00a0Wayne Static<\/strong>, along with the original\u00a0“Wisconsin Death Trip”<\/strong>\u00a0lineup featuring\u00a0Campos<\/strong>,\u00a0Fukuda<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Jay<\/strong>. The new album was produced by\u00a0Xer0<\/strong>\u00a0and mixed\/mastered by longtime collaborator\u00a0Ulrich Wild<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

All of the music associated with “Project Regeneration: Vol. 2”<\/strong> is the result of collaborations between the four founding members along with their new vocalist\/guitarist\/producer Xer0<\/strong>. No additional guests appear on the album and there were no outside contributions to the songwriting, musical compositions, or the performances on “Project Regeneration: Vol. 2”<\/strong>. Between the two releases, STATIC-X<\/strong> fans around the globe have been treated to over two dozen brand new songs \u2014 most of which feature Static<\/strong> on lead vocals \u2014 and all released after his untimely passing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

STATIC-X<\/strong> \u2014 featuring the lineup of Campos<\/strong>, drummer Ken Jay<\/strong>, guitarist Koichi Fukuda<\/strong> and Xer0<\/strong> \u2014 will hit the road in 2023, headlining the “Rise Of The Machine”<\/strong> tour with FEAR FACTORY<\/strong> alongside DOPE<\/strong>, MUSHROOMHEAD<\/strong> and TWIZTID<\/strong>. The 42-date trek kicks off February 25 in San Francisco, California and wraps up April 15, in Los Angeles, California. Dates have been selling out across the country, with select markets upgrading to larger venues to meet the demand for the tour. STATIC-X<\/strong> also recently revealed plans for a tour of Australia and an appearance at the Blue Ridge Rock Fest<\/strong> this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Static<\/strong>\u00a0died after mixing Xanax and other powerful prescription drugs with alcohol, according to the coroner’s report. The 48-year-old, whose real name was\u00a0Wayne Richard Wells<\/strong>, was found dead in his Landers, California home on November 1, 2014.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Static<\/strong> founded STATIC-X<\/strong> in 1994 and achieved commercial success with “Wisconsin Death Trip”<\/strong>, which included the rock radio hit “Push It”<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The group issued five more studio albums before disbanding permanently in June 2013. Static<\/strong> had been pursuing a solo career at the time of his death.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dope<\/strong>\u00a0recently told\u00a0Anne Erickson<\/strong>\u00a0of\u00a0Audio Ink Radio<\/strong>\u00a0that the reason\u00a0Xer0<\/strong>‘s identity has not been officially revealed is that he wants to make sure that\u00a0STATIC-X<\/strong>\u00a0is “properly represented, because I would never be interested in looking at a photo of\u00a0STATIC-X<\/strong>\u00a0or reading a liner note that mentions me as being the singer of\u00a0STATIC-X<\/strong>.\u00a0Edsel Dope<\/strong>\u00a0has no interest in being the singer of\u00a0STATIC-X<\/strong>,” he clarified. “There’s one living, breathing singer of\u00a0STATIC-X<\/strong>, and that’s\u00a0Wayne Static<\/strong>. And then there’s a character, an entity, for lack of better words, that was created in order to allow\u00a0STATIC-X<\/strong>\u00a0to have a future and to continue and be the legacy act that they are and tour and perform, and we gave that character a name that is respective to\u00a0STATIC-X<\/strong>\u00a0and fits the branding of what\u00a0STATIC-X<\/strong>\u00a0is, and that’s what the importance is. It’s the importance of recognizing the character as opposed to recognizing the person behind the character.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Back in October 2019, a photo was posted online clearly showing that\u00a0Dope<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Xer0<\/strong>\u00a0shared the same neck tattoo. However,\u00a0Edsel<\/strong>\u00a0later posted a lengthy statement on his band’s\u00a0Facebook<\/strong>\u00a0page attempting to quash the rumors, implying\u00a0Xer0<\/strong>‘s distinctive body ink was in fact a\u00a0Photoshop<\/strong>\u00a0job.\u00a0Dope<\/strong>\u00a0even provided a photograph of himself supposedly observing a\u00a0STATIC-X<\/strong>\u00a0performance sidestage to prove he and\u00a0Xer0<\/strong>\u00a0were not the same person.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
