Tim Horne<\/strong> is a Margate, Kent-based musician who uses synthesisers, acoustic instruments and field recordings to compose cinematic ambient and electronic music. After a decade of playing bass, synths and providing backing vocals in a series of bands that included Linear Loveboxx, Inca Maps and Inigo Blue & The System, he self-released two albums of solo modular synth improvisations entitled \u2018Rise’ (2022) and \u2018Clusters’ (2023). He has since developed and expanded his sound at the regular live sessions hosted by Coastal Electronauts in nearby Whitstable, culminating in the eight tracks that comprise his new album \u2018Transmutation\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Recorded towards the end of a long-term relationship, \u2018Transmutation\u2019 is a nostalgic meditation on contradictory memories of joy and sorrow, as well as a hopeful embrace of change and the future. The recording process became a way for Horne to process complex emotions and reflect on these paradoxical memories.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The track \u2018An Ocean Apart\u2019 has been issued as a single today (10th September). \u201cIt forms the emotional core of the album and is imbued with paradoxical feelings of distance and closeness, isolation and connection,\u201d<\/em> explains Horne. \u201cThese are contradictory emotions I\u2019ve oscillated between when looking back with unreliable memory and nostalgia.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Horne is inspired by vintage, contemporary and futuristic sounding synth music, with an added passion for well orchestrated arrangements. Exploring these contrasting sound palettes, he layers flutes and other instruments with analog, digital and modular synths, often processing them to sound somewhat different to the source material. \u2018Transmutation\u2019 attempts to transform its themes of nostalgia and melancholia into something new and hopeful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Horne\u2019s influences include Wendy Carlos, Kraftwerk, Boards of Canada, Sigur R\u00f3s, M83, Radiohead, Nils Frahm, Alessandro Cortini, R Beny, Emily Sprague, Ann Annie, Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith, Jogging House and Hainbach.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
