Our Common Collapse, who last month announced their signing to 3DOT Recordings, have released a second standalone single, \u201cRitual\u201d (https:\/\/go.mhe.fm\/occ_ritual<\/a>) via the label.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Guitarist and producer Elliot Merriman says of the track, which arrives in tandem with a video<\/a>: \u201cIt\u2019s about a parasitic relationship with vices and escapism and how it secludes you, making you feel stuck and isolated but comfortable at the same time\u2014a repeating cycle or ritual.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Late last month, the band released \u201cInvertebrate<\/a>,\u201d a punishing track that led Drew Fortune to say: \u201cGood f#cking goodness! This is heavy by their standards; this is actually so heavy.\u201d MetalBirb\u2019s reaction? \u201cThat\u2019s some filth.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a hint of what\u2019s to come, Merriman added: \u201cWe\u2019ve spent a long time writing and refining this new material and we can\u2019t wait for everyone to hear a more evolved, fully realized version of the band. Every decision from the songwriting to the production was made with the intention of pushing our sound further while staying true to the music we enjoy listening to and creating. This is only the beginning of what we\u2019ve been working on.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Originally formed as “a high school project for a bunch of friends” in 2017, Our Common Collapse have steadily refined their progressive deathcore sound, drawing inspiration from everything from 2001: A Space Odyssey and The Lord of the Rings to Meshuggah and Deafheaven. Following the release of their 2019 EP No Longer Human or Known<\/em>, the band continued to gain fans and momentum with singles including “The Lonesome Tongues,” “Languish,” “The Romantics,” and “Weeping.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
