Chicago-based industrial-rock-punk-experimental supergroup <\/strong>The Joy Thieves<\/a><\/strong> presents ‘I\u2019ll Be Your Hammer’<\/strong> <\/a>from their full-length album <\/strong>‘Apocalypse Pending’<\/strong><\/a>, released via Armalyte Industries<\/strong><\/a>. As with the album’s lead singles ‘No Anchor’<\/strong><\/a> and \u2018The Wrong End of Your Rifle\u2019<\/a><\/strong>, the accompanying video was created by Lumbra Productions<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A rallying cry to inspire people to stand up to fascism as it quickly spreads around the globe, the song\u2019s title is a direct response to \u2018I\u2019ll Be Your Mirror<\/strong>\u2019 by The Velvet Underground<\/strong>, and also alludes to the quote \u201cArt is not a mirror, it\u2019s a hammer\u201d<\/em> by the trailblazing Scottish documentarian John Grierson.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Many instantly recognize the iconic voice of Chris Connelly<\/strong> <\/a>(Fini Tribe, Revolting Cocks, Ministry, Pigface)<\/strong>, who shares, \u201cWhile \u2018I\u2019ll Be Your Mirror\u2019 by The Velvet Underground is an introspective plea from one lover to another, \u2018I\u2019ll Be Your Hammer\u2019 is written from the perspective of an individual standing up to a fascist regime. The more you suppress our rights, the stronger I get\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
