I’m going to need to do this x country drive again before I get too old to enjoy doing the intense things I enjoy doing in the wild. I’ve done this drive 3 x: The primary route through Monument Valley in Arizona is U.S. Highway 163 (US-163), the iconic, highly scenic byway that cuts directly through the red-rock desert. The highway spans the Arizona-Utah border and offers spectacular, uninterrupted views of towering sandstone buttes right from your vehicle.<\/p>\n\n\n

I think at this point I can refer to Raquel Figlo as a friend. She’s an old school publicist who has sent a lot of bands my way for the podcast and is very passionate about all things hard rock and heavy metal. Saturday 6\/20\/2026 my second voyage of the summer to Montrose Beach to bathe in the sun. Its Tuesday morning as I write this and I’m still feeling the burn. Yeah, I’m lobster red. The north shore was packed and all the way north passed Foster Beach was more crowded than I have ever seen it in the 3 decades I’ve been visiting the lakefront. All of the parking spots are pay by box now where it used to be lots of free parking, The concession prices have doubled since 2024 which is a sad sign of the times. On the good side life along the lake is back and overwhelming since Mayor Lori Lightfoot infamously shut the beaches down for 2 seasons during COVID which really made no sense since its OUTSIDE!<\/p>\n\n\n

My new spot, out of the sand and not on the water edge though its not as isolated as it used to be. The lakefront is so crowded as of late it’s very hard to get a quiet and peaceful spot.<\/p>\n\n\n

Montrose Beach is located at 4400 N. Lake Shore Drive (Montrose Ave. at Lake Michigan) near the Uptown neighborhood.  This popular beach offers patrons amenities that include food concessions, kayak and volleyball rentals, showers and restrooms.  There is a non-motorized boat launch. An ADA accessible beach walk is available.  Patrons can park at pay and display lots or street parking.  Distance swimming is available from Tower 4 (north of boathouse) and parallel to shore. A dog friendly beach is located at north end of Montrose Beach. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

South of the recreational beach a natural area attracts many migratory birds during the fall and spring seasons.  A serene dune habitat has a rare panne habitat and endangered plant life thrives at this location. <\/p>\n\n\n

My favorite neighborhood theater gets an upgrade:  Chicago\u2019s Music Box Theatre will unveil a new 98-seat theater June 26, marking the first time the venue will have three screens in its nearly 100-year history. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The new theater will include a projection booth capable of showing both digital and 35mm films, stadium seating and a back row of loveseats that can accommodate two guests at a time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While suburban, multiplex theaters may be seeing declining attendance, the audience for smaller, arthouse theaters like the Music Box has only grown, Music Box Theatre owner Brody Sheldon told Block Club.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To make room for the Music Box\u2019s third screen, the theater converted two commercial storefronts just south of the venue at 3727 and 3729 N. Southport Ave. June 26 will also mark the reopening of the theater\u2019s second screen after it was closed for renovations in early April. <\/p>\n\n\n

The Nineteen Hundred and One Gallery was a not-for-profit venue located at 1901 W. Belmont Avenue (with the entrance on Wolcott). Run by local artists, it was uniquely operated as a visual art gallery during the day and a performance theatre by night.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


The venue was well-known for showcasing underground, avant-garde, and goth-oriented works.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
