\u201cI wrote these lyrics from a place of trauma and desperation while sitting in a children\u2019s hospital fighting to get an inpatient rehab bed for my kid,\u201d she explains. \u201cMental illness is only mildly influenced by environment and can ultimately take a back seat to genetic proclivity.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He continues, \u201cIt makes me question if I have done enough, if I can help the next human that suffers \u2014 a friend, family member, or stranger. What is my purpose in this? How do we make a difference? Is there ever enough?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bassist Jason says the song immediately resonated with his own experiences surrounding suicide and mental health.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis song is about self-harm and suicide,\u201d Jason states. \u201cIt\u2019s very personal for me. Even though I didn\u2019t write it, it\u2019s as if Tina was looking inside my heart.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He continues, \u201cWe\u2019ve all had a family member or friend who has attempted or been successful in suicide. We need to call it what it is \u2014 suicide or killing yourself. Today, algorithms will block or cancel you for using these words, but it\u2019s growing like a plague. Twenty-two veterans a day commit suicide, so clearly hiding from the conversation isn\u2019t working.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI think instead of hiding from it, we should talk about it with our kids, our friends, and our family.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
