Original post-punk icon Peter Murphy<\/strong> issued \u2018Swoon\u2019 in February 2025 as the first single from \u2018Silver Shade\u2019, his widely acclaimed eleventh studio album released three months later on Metropolis Records. A majestic slice of synth-punk\/funk, the song featured Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails on backing vocals and album producer Youth on bass.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A remix of \u2018Swoon\u2019 by the US dream-pop duo Magic Wands (Dexy and Chris Valentine) has been released as a single today (29th May) that can be streamed HERE<\/a>, with a video also available HERE<\/a>. \u201cOur take on the song was about chasing a very specific feeling, like a kind of natural high,\u201d<\/em> they explain. \u201cThe goal was to build on the emotion in Peter\u2019s vocal and surround it with a fast-moving, euphoric wash of guitars and synths, capturing the rush of a true swoon.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Produced by Youth (Pink Floyd, The Verve, Crowded House, plus member of Killing Joke, The Orb, The Firemen) at his studio in Spain, \u2018Silver Shade\u2019 is Murphy\u2019s eleventh studio album and a long-awaited follow-up to \u2018Lion\u2019, which the pair worked on together a decade prior. A symbiotic relationship born of artistic collaboration, Murphy has stated that \u201cthis album is as powerful as any of my work to date.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Peter Murphy\u2019s solo career began in 1986 with the release of \u2018Should The World Fail To Fall Apart\u2019, with this and ten other studio albums to date spawning fan favourites such as \u2018Cuts You Up\u2019, \u2018A Strange Kind Of Love\u2019, \u2018All Night Long\u2019, \u2018Indigo Eyes\u2019, \u2018The Prince & Old Lady Shade\u2019 and \u2018I\u2019ll Fall With Your Knife\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Prior to this, Murphy had fronted Bauhaus, who emerged from the fertile UK post-punk scene in 1979 with the release of their debut single, \u2018Bela Lugosi\u2019s Dead\u2019, often considered to be the very first gothic rock record. The band went on to record four seminal albums before initially splitting in 1983, as well as further classic singles such as \u2018Dark Entries\u2019, \u2018The Passion Of Lovers\u2019, \u2018Lagartija Nick\u2019 and \u2018She’s In Parties\u2019. They also had a UK Top 20 hit with a cover version of \u2018Ziggy Stardust\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
