Shape Navigator <\/strong>is the electronic alter ego of the Kent-based composer, musician and sound artist Peter Coyte, whose recently issued debut album, \u2018Journal\u2019, has drawn favourable comparisons to fellow sonic explorers such as Craven Faults and Warrington Runcorn New Town Development Plan.

A video for the album track \u2018Norham Sunrise\u2019 has been made available today and can be seen HERE<\/a>. Built around field recordings made along the Northumberland coastline, Coyte explains that \u201cthis track is a depiction of the intensity of sunlight that also includes recordings of distant pulsars.\u201d<\/em> An area where the land, sky and water are an abstraction of light and atmosphere, it is also known for J.M.W. Turner\u2019s paintings of Norham Castle, including ‘Norham Castle, Sunrise\u2019 c. 1845.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The video has been created by @diz_qo<\/a>, who describes it as a metaphor for the creation of the human condition: \u201cThe first silent spark of sentience, to empires, war, wonder and wisdom; all of history, all of the human condition, spins into view. Something was there.\u201d<\/em> Featuring a silhouetted figure in constant motion, the clip can also be seen as part of the arcane but lovingly xenic tradition of classic British sci-fi television, with the unseen intelligence as both narrative device and visual metaphor: it shapes events, yet remains outside the diegetic frame.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
