KISS<\/strong>‘s “I Was Made For Lovin’ You”<\/strong> music video has officially topped a billion views on YouTube<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The band announced the milestone on social media, writing: “The numbers speak for themselves. This one still dominates. IWMFLY baby!!”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last summer, Paul Stanley<\/strong> revealed that “I Was Made For Lovin’ You”<\/strong> is the “biggest” KISS<\/strong> song of all time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On August 26, 2025, the now-74-year-old KISS<\/strong> guitarist\/vocalist, who co-wrote “I Was Made For Lovin’ You”<\/strong> with Desmond Child<\/strong> and Vini Poncia<\/strong>, took to X<\/strong> to write: “THE BIGGEST KISS SONG OF ALL TIME IS\u2026 ‘I Was Made for Lovin’ You’<\/strong> with 1.3 BILLION total streams on Spotify<\/strong> as of late August and approximately 850 THOUSAND daily streams!! Amazing and THANK YOU!”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Seven years ago, Child<\/strong> said he was hurt when KISS<\/strong> publicly badmouthed “I Was Made For Lovin’ You”<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Although “I Was Made For Lovin’ You”<\/strong> was a huge chart success for KISS<\/strong> 40 years ago, it was maligned by many of the group’s fans who didn’t appreciate the track’s disco beat.<\/p>\n\n\n

During an appearance<\/a> on the “Talk Is Jericho”<\/strong> podcast, Child<\/strong> said that he wrote “I Was Made For Lovin’ You”<\/strong> with Stanley<\/strong> after befriending the KISS<\/strong> frontman in the late ’70s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“I was experimenting then with a drum machine, and the idea of having dance beats with rock had occurred to me,” Desmond<\/strong> recalled. “So I kind of hoodwinked him into this idea of four-on-the-floor dance beat with these heavy guitars. Gene<\/strong> [Simmons<\/strong>, KISS<\/strong> bassist\/vocalist] never bought it \u2014 he never liked it, [and] he [still] doesn’t.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“I remember when they made a record \u2014 I think it was [1981’s] ‘[Music From] ‘The Elder”<\/strong> \u2014 and they started doing hundreds of interviews saying, ‘Well, this time, we’re putting guards in front of the door to keep Desmond Child<\/strong> out,'” he continued. “And I was so hurt. I called Paul<\/strong> and I said, ‘Paul<\/strong>, why don’t you criticize your enemies, not the friends that put money in your pocket?’ And he says, ‘Well, you know, that’s Gene<\/strong> \u2014 it’s not me.’ So, the next day I came home and there was a message on my answering machine. And it was, like, ‘Hi. It’s Gene<\/strong>. Sorry.’ And he hangs up. [Laughs<\/em>] That was his apology.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Child<\/strong>, he and Simmons<\/strong> eventually reconciled. “After all these years, he’s been an amazing friend and supporter and, actually, mentor,” Desmond<\/strong> said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“I Was Made for Lovin’ You”<\/strong> originally appeared on KISS<\/strong>‘s 1979 album “Dynasty”<\/strong>. It was released as the A-side of their first single from the album. It was the band’s second gold single, selling over 1 million copies. The single reached No. 11 on the U.S. Billboard<\/strong> singles chart. The song also became a Top 10 hit in Australia, reaching No. 6 on the ARIA<\/strong> charts in 1979. The song fared the best in Western Europe (Where it became a Top 20 hit in Sweden, a Top 10 hit in Norway, made it to the No. 2 position in France, Germany, Switzerland, and Austria, and in Holland it became a No. 1 smash).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2018, Simmons<\/strong> said that he hated performing “I Was Made For Lovin’ You”<\/strong> because he is forced to sing like his grandmother. Asked in an interview with OK!<\/strong> magazine to name a song that he wasn’t initially crazy about that ended up becoming a hit, Gene<\/strong> said: “Well, Paul Stanley<\/strong> comes in and he says, ‘Did you write any songs?’ I go, ‘Oh, yeah. I’ve got one called ‘Almost Human’<\/strong>.’ ‘Yeah? How does it go?’ ‘I’m almost human. I can’t help feelin’ strange.’ ‘Yeah, that’s cool. That’s a Gene<\/strong> song.’ ‘How about you, Paul<\/strong>?’ He goes, ‘I’ve got one. [It goes] ‘Tonight.” “Ooooh. That’s cool. What’s the next line?’ ‘I’m gonna give it all to you.’ ‘Oh, yeah. I know what ‘it’ means \u2014 I know exactly<\/em> what you mean.’ ‘In the darkness.’ [Claps<\/em>] ‘Love that!’ ‘There something I wanna do.’ ‘Yeah, I know what that ‘something’ is. Wow! That’s a cool song. Okay, what’s my part?’ [Sings<\/em>] ‘Do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do.’ ‘You’re killing me. Really? I’m gonna sing like my grandmother?’ [Sings<\/em>] ‘Do, do, do\u2026’ I hate playing that song to [this] day. Stadiums full of people jump up and down like biblical locusts \u2014 they go nuts \u2014 with tattoos and grills on\u2026 ‘Ahhhh!’ They’re all jumping up and down, and I’m going, ‘Do, do, do, do, do, do\u2026 Kill me now.’ Still \u2014 still to this day I hate that song.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After the female interviewer pressed him on whether the song ever grew on him after performing it for the last four decades, Gene<\/strong> said: “Well, how about you sing that song? You’re a girl. I wanna sing guy stuff.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Stanley<\/strong> admitted in 2017 that the success of “I Was Made For Lovin’ You”<\/strong> was “a double-edged sword, because it became such a massive hit but it was also so contrary and contradictory to what we had done before.” He added: “The funniest thing is when we do festivals sometimes in Europe where it’s very much\u2026 the bands are quite heavy, well, when we do an encore of ‘I Was Made For Lovin’ You’<\/strong>, you suddenly have all these people with spikes in their eyeballs or bones through their noses singing along. So it’s a song that seems to transcend everything \u2014 although it went through a period, certainly, of a big backlash against it.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
