A deliberate exercise in contrast, this single blends a catchy, classic pop sensibility with a &#8220;mean and nasty&#8221; performance, capturing the energy of fun rock and roll while maintaining a gritty, powerful edge that pushes against its own sweet melodies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The music video itself serves as a stylistic laboratory, bridging the gap between the band&#8217;s musical and cinematic projects. Featured in the bold 2025 animated motion picture<strong>&nbsp;<\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/VBtSXy4JxF8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>&#8220;I\u2019d Rather Be Turned Into Cat Food&#8221;<\/strong><\/a>. Written and directed by&nbsp;<strong>Walter Santucci<\/strong>&nbsp;and produced by<strong>&nbsp;<\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.evilcatland.com\/cat-food-trailer\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Evil Cat Land<\/strong><\/a>&nbsp;(whose pedigree includes&nbsp;animation for MTV, Nickelodeon, ABC, Disney, Ice T,&nbsp;Margaret Cho, Cedric the Entertainer and Monty Python&#8217;s&nbsp;Graham Chapman), this film does to cinema what punk rock did to music.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Not based in the Motor City, but Los Angeles, Detroit Illharmonic Symphony&#8217;s core members are&nbsp;<strong>Cool Walt<\/strong>&nbsp;(bass, cello, guitar, piano),&nbsp;<strong>Raga Roni<\/strong>&nbsp;(samples, drum programming, turntables),&nbsp;<strong>Malyque Smith<\/strong>&nbsp;(rapping and turntables),&nbsp;<strong>Cecilia Suhr&nbsp;<\/strong>(violin, cello, piano) and<strong>&nbsp;Lukecage<\/strong>&nbsp;(piano, saxophone, drums). For this album, the band teamed up with southern California punk pioneers&nbsp;<strong>Jack Grisham (TSOL)<\/strong>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<strong>Keith Morris (Circle Jerks, Black Flag)<\/strong>, among other guests.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;At its core musically, \u201cWho Loves You\u201d is total rock and roll nonsense. &nbsp;Fun, melodic punk with words that SEEM to have deep meaning but actually don\u2019t. &nbsp;And that\u2019s the message: a deliberate F.U. to being normal. I wanted it to be catchy and have a classic pop feel to it, but I also wanted the band to play it mean and nasty; to have the performance contrast with the melody and create a really powerful record,&#8221; says&nbsp;<strong>Cool Walt<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<div class=\"nv-iframe-embed\"><iframe title=\"Who Loves You\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/9dG44LV6IsU?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;The music video came about during the production of our feature film &#8216;<a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/VBtSXy4JxF8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>I\u2019d Rather Be Turned Into Cat Food&#8221;<\/strong><\/a>. &nbsp;We were experimenting with animation styles, trying to find the right one for the movie, and decided to test some ideas out by making a video. &nbsp;We\u2019d just finished recording \u201cWho Loves You\u201d and decided to try out the \u201cCat Food\u201d ideas in it, most notably the rapidly changing faces of the main character and the sketchy, rough line style.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It would be an understatement to say that the &#8216;Everything Is Shattered&#8217; album is an ambitious project. Fusing elements of punk, indie rock, classical music, hip hop and soul, these are 14 tracks loaded with punk attitude, cinematic soundscapes, and hip hop swagger. This record is released by California&#8217;s legendary&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/gezaxrecords.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Geza X Records<\/strong><\/a>, founded by the legendary producer&nbsp;<strong>Geza X<\/strong>, the sonic architect of West Coast punk, and engineer of seminal music by punk royalty\u2014Dead Kennedys, The Germs, Black Flag, The Avengers, Redd Kross and The Weirdos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Along with&nbsp;artists&nbsp;<strong>Tony Nittoli, Kristina Wong<\/strong>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<strong>John Andrews<\/strong>, best known for his work with&nbsp;<strong>MTV<\/strong>&nbsp;and for producing&nbsp;<strong>Beavis and Butthead<\/strong>, the film<strong>&nbsp;<\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/VBtSXy4JxF8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>&#8220;I\u2019d Rather Be Turned Into Cat Food&#8221;<\/strong><\/a>&nbsp;also features&nbsp;<strong>Jack Grisham&nbsp;<\/strong>and&nbsp;<strong>Keith Morris<\/strong>&nbsp;, who<strong>&nbsp;<\/strong>contributes vocals on&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/detroitillharmonic.bandcamp.com\/track\/if-you-cooperate-2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>\u201cIf You Cooperate\u201d<\/strong><\/a>, a psychedelic surf-punk fever dream meets spaghetti-western soundtrack, with&nbsp;<strong>Cecilia Suhr<\/strong>&nbsp;on violin).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The lead track&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/F1mb8RIQtIA\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>&#8220;Everything Is Shattered&#8221;<\/strong><\/a>&nbsp;sees&nbsp;<strong>Jack Grisham<\/strong>&nbsp;(from<strong>&nbsp;TSOL<\/strong>) joined by vocalist&nbsp;<strong>Max Galbreath (ttwopercentmilk)<\/strong>. Produced and recorded by&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/kittenrobot.com\/artist\/paul-roessler\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Paul Roessler<\/strong><\/a>&nbsp;(<strong>The Screamers, Nina Hagen, 45 Grave<\/strong>)&nbsp;at&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/kittenrobot.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Kitten Robot Studios<\/strong><\/a>, this high-energy cinematic post-punk anthem has Bond-theme intensity. The&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/F1mb8RIQtIA\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>accompanying video&nbsp;<\/strong><\/a>has toured the world, featured on the PBS television show &#8220;Music California&#8221; and has won four awards, most recently at the&nbsp;<strong>Los Angeles Animation Festival<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Presenting a wild mashup of punk, indie rock, hip hop, and cinematic chaos, this album brings to life fantasies of TSOL jamming with the Beastie Boys in a Quentin Tarantino movie. It&#8217;s rich diversity is worth exploring.&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/detroitillharmonic.bandcamp.com\/track\/you-have-one-minute-to-disperse\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>&#8220;You Have One Minute to Disperse&#8221;<\/strong><\/a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/detroitillharmonic.bandcamp.com\/track\/shes-never-gonna-love-me-2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>\u201cShe\u2019s Never Gonna Love Me\u201d<\/strong><\/a>&nbsp;both features&nbsp;<strong>Malyque Smith<\/strong>&nbsp;on vocals. Diana Lynn appears on&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/detroitillharmonic.bandcamp.com\/track\/doo-doo-on-a-stick-2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>&#8220;Doo Doo On A Stick&#8221;<\/strong><\/a>, where 70s soul merges with Sesame Street groove, while&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/detroitillharmonic.bandcamp.com\/track\/welcome-to-fear-city-3\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>&#8220;Welcome to Fear City&#8221;<\/strong><\/a>&nbsp;\u2014 with Venetia Phillips on trumpet \u2014 paints hip-hop with a shade of 60s movie soundtrack cool.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Since 2001, Detroit Illharmonic has released nine albums and scores for several film and television projects. With an exciting and unique mix of symphonic instruments, samples, turntables and the involvement of various vocalists, their work has been featured at Brooklyn Academy of Music, REDCAT (LA), University of Chicago, Royce Hall (UCLA), University of Notre Dame, Cinema Detroit, and American Cinematheque. In 2014, the video for their song<strong>&nbsp;&#8220;It&#8217;s a Lovely Day&#8221;<\/strong>&nbsp;toured with the 50th anniversary re-release of&nbsp;<strong>The Beatles&#8217; &#8220;A Hard Day&#8217;s Night&#8221;<\/strong>, screening in 20 cities across the USA.
