Shock rock band Society 1<\/em> has unveiled their latest and most provocative project yet with the release of their new music video, \u201cYou Made Me.\u201d<\/strong> The video digitally recreates the infamous greenhouse where Nirvana<\/em> frontman Kurt Cobain<\/strong> took his own life in April 1994\u2014offering a visceral and controversial visual experience that aims to spotlight the emotional toll of toxic relationships and mental illness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The original greenhouse structure\u2014located behind Cobain’s Lake Washington home\u2014was demolished shortly after his death. Using actual crime scene photographs and advanced AI technology, Society 1<\/em> has meticulously reconstructed the space for the video, marking a first-of-its-kind depiction of the room in motion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe song is about Kurt and another person I knew personally who took their own life because of what I believe was toxic love,\u201d says frontman Matt Zane. \u201cThe chorus says, \u2018Your love made me die.\u2019 It\u2019s a way of saying \u2018Courtney Love made me die\u2019\u2014not in some conspiratorial way, but as a reflection of the lack of support, understanding, and emotional neglect some people face.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition to the band performing inside the virtual greenhouse, the video expands on never-before-seen perspectives of the surrounding environment, offering an emotionally immersive experience meant to put viewers in the shoes of those lost to suicide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe used AI to place the viewer in the room like never before,\u201d adds Zane. \u201cI wanted them to feel the weight of standing where someone they cared about ended their life. That moment stuck with me forever.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The video ends with a harrowing scene: Zane himself depicted taking his own life with a shotgun\u2014an artistic statement meant to underscore how vulnerable anyone can become under the weight of emotional trauma.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt could have been any one of us,\u201d Zane explains. \u201cWhen you\u2019re with the wrong person and feel there\u2019s no way out, it\u2019s easy to imagine making the same tragic choice.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cYou Made Me\u201d is the band\u2019s first music video following the release of Zane\u2019s recent book, \u201cEveryone Dies: The Matt Zane Reckoning\u201d (Heavy Music Artwork), and earlier this year\u2019s critically noted documentary \u201cEveryone Dies (Rock Stars Don\u2019t Count).\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
