Sept. 10, 2025 \u2013 Heavy metal and punk rock! It\u2019s fair to say that these two noisy tribes now have a great deal in common \u2013 often melding together, almost indistinguishable, to produce bastard offspring of their own. But it wasn\u2019t always this way. Indeed, there was a time when fists were more likely to be thrown than bumped, and beers more likely to be hurled than shared \u2013 except when it came to Mot\u00f6rhead. That was the one band all could agree on. The one band that was truly ours<\/em>!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But while Mot\u00f6rhead\u2019s impact on metal has long been acknowledged, their influence on punk, particularly the post-Sex Pistols second wave shouldn\u2019t be underestimated. Cause and effect: It\u2019s that simple. And such is the case with hundreds, thousands<\/em>, of other bands, all made faster, dirtier, louder, better<\/em>, by Mot\u00f6rhead. None more so than in punk rock. And that\u2019s because Mot\u00f6rhead were, in essence, a punk rock band.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lemmy once said: \u201cThe punks loved us. The only reason we weren\u2019t in that lot was because we had long hair, so obviously we must be heavy metal. That was the thinking. But a lot of kids heard us without seeing a picture, so they thought we were a punk band.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Across the fourteen tracks on the cunningly titled Killed By Deaf \u2013 A Punk Tribute To Mot\u00f6rhead <\/em>(Oct. 31, BMG Recordings), you\u2019ll hear a loving tribute to Mot\u00f6rhead from some of punk rock\u2019s biggest and most respected bands. Luminaries like Rancid, Pennywise, Lagwagon, GBH, The Bronx, and FEAR all contribute raucous versions of their favorite Mot\u00f6rhead tracks\u2026 and also up-and-coming upstarts like Slaughterhouse contribute, because, let\u2019s face it Mot\u00f6rhead always loved and championed the underdogs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lemmy and Mot\u00f6rhead aren\u2019t honored with their own space in the Punk Rock Museum for nothing. Long before they covered the Sex Pistols\u2019 \u201cGod Save the Queen\u201d on We Are Mot\u00f6rhead<\/em> and long before writing \u201cR.A.M.O.N.E.S.\u201d for the 1916<\/em> album in tribute to New York\u2019s finest, Mot\u00f6rhead were sharing stages with the likes of The Damned, as they would continue to do many times over the years. Hell, Lemmy even joined The Damned (when they were The Doomed), albeit briefly, and playing some now infamous shows, and playing bass on a couple of studio tracks. It\u2019s only fitting then, that the only non- Mot\u00f6rhead song on this album is from when he teamed up with them again in 2002 for a previously unheard and blistering version of The Damned\u2019s classic, \u201cNeat Neat Neat.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
