The new tracks are released together as the Scarred but Fearless single for Bandcamp Friday, 5 September 2025.

Frontwoman Caroline Blind describes some of the themes and inspirations behind the songs:

“Ghost of You is basically another great driving song, the music evokes the movement and speed. Driving is often where I do all my best thinking and working out of whatever I need to think through, so you hear me relating all my processes into driving terms, making the connections, ‘driving as a metaphor’.”

“Unsinkable is basically a song of triumph over adversity, a little pep talk to myself: my ‘I Will Survive’, if you will. It’s a rallying cry to those going through a lot of injustice (women in particular), so it feels very timely to me. It’s a pushing back against all the projection and gaslighting that people try to saddle us with, with the chorus of “We’re sick of carrying that which is not our shame”.”

Caroline Blind – Sunshine Blind – Live in New York 2024: Photo by Douglass Dresher

Formed in New Jersey and later based in San Francisco, Sunshine Blind were originally active from 1991-2004, disbanding when the husband-and-wife duo of CWHK and Caroline Blind parted ways. During that time, they produced three studio albums: Love the Sky to Death (1995), Liquid (1997), and I Carry You (2003). The band gigged and toured around the US with the likes of The Wake, Faith and the Muse, and Switchblade Symphony among others; became regular fixtures at early Convergence festivals; and ventured to the UK and Europe for prestigious festival appearances including Whitby Goth Weekend and Wave-Gotik-Treffen.

The live band later reunited occasionally for special one-off shows between 2010 and 2018, joined by original drummer Geoff Bruce (also of Faith and the Muse, Christ vs. Warhol), and enlisting longtime friend and co-conspirator William Faith on bass (Faith and the Muse, The Bellwether Syndicate, Rozz Williams, Mephisto Walz, et al). Meanwhile, Caroline Blind embarked on a solo career, releasing her debut album The Spell Between in 2020, and becoming one half of downtempo duo Voidant, alongside Dave ‘Wolfie’ Wolfenden of Red Lorry Yellow Lorry.

In 2023, co-founders and co-writers Caroline and CWHK announced that they had begun writing new material together for the first time in many years, while also re-releasing their back-catalogue digitally. Reflecting on the return to collaborating as Sunshine Blind, Caroline says:

“Honestly, it’s just hard to find new partners (of any sort) once you’ve had a real connection and a lot of success with one in particular. We both have played with different people over the years, which has been great to flex the muscles and try new things, but we ended up back where we started. After many life circumstances, and despite long distances, we’ve kept in touch, and recently agreed to try some new music. It’s been a great experience to see and share how we’ve grown, and to use our experiences to create something new from something very familiar.”

CWHK – Sunshine Blind – Live in New York 2024: Photo by Douglass Dresher

In December 2024 the Blind / CWHK / Bruce / Faith lineup of the band reunited to play their first live show in six years, at The Red Party in New York’s Mercury Lounge; while in July of 2025, Sunshine Blind shared two recently unearthed 1990s demos from the vaults, as Unreleased Vol 1.

Scarred but Fearless from Sunshine Blind is out now as a digital download on Bandcamp, and streaming from Spotify and all the usual digital music stores

After much teasing and anticipation, US goth rock veterans Sunshine Blind at last release their first new songs in over twenty years: two driving goth rock bangers, ‘Ghost of You’ and the especially rousing anthem, ‘Unsinkable’.
