Matt Zane Re-Releases Banned \u201cKill Me\u201d Video Alongside New Book \u201cThe Matt Zane Reckoning\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

LOS ANGELES, CA \u2014 Long before Kanye West invoked Hitler and Lil Nas X portrayed Jesus, Matt Zane of Society 1<\/em> was already confronting social taboos head-on\u2014artistically and unapologetically. Now, Zane is back with a remastered release of the controversial Society 1<\/em> video \u201cKill Me,\u201d<\/strong> coinciding with the launch of his new book, The Matt Zane Reckoning<\/em>, published by Heavy Music Artwork.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While the book offers a deep dive into Zane\u2019s storied and controversial career, one major chapter was notably left out: the original, banned version of Kill Me<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cBless the author Alex Milazzo for making this book. I’ll be eternally grateful for all his time and dedication,\u201d said Zane. \u201cWith that being said, he didn’t feel comfortable including all aspects of my career\u2014stories or visuals\u2014and I don’t blame him.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Zane continued:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cNo pictures were included of me portraying Hitler or Jesus. When I originally did the video, it was banned everywhere. Ten years later, Kanye West and Lil Nas X are doing the same thing and it\u2019s everywhere. I wanted to re-release the original cut of Kill Me<\/em> just to let the music world know it exists\u2014since it\u2019s not shown in the book.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Musically, Kill Me<\/em> is a fast-paced, industrial-driven track, opening with a riff strikingly reminiscent of Ministry\u2019s New World Order<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAt that time, Al Jourgenson of Ministry ripped two band members from me, so I decided to rip a riff off from him,\u201d Zane added. \u201cIt was in good fun\u2014but his management didn\u2019t think so.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Not one to shy away from controversy, Society 1<\/em> has built a reputation on pushing boundaries. As Bloody Disgusting<\/em> once noted:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cSociety 1<\/em> has never really seen a point in steering away from controversy, and their latest video for Kill Me<\/em> proves that. Featuring singer Lord Zane as both Jesus AND Hitler, the video is a chaotic, frenzied montage of blood, breasts, swastikas, and sadomasochistic violence.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

The re-release of Kill Me<\/em> offers both a retrospective and a timely commentary on the evolving nature of shock in art and music.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
