Toronto, Canada-based punk artist\u00a0ThxSoMch<\/strong>\u00a0covered a Toronto art gallery in black splatter paint under strobe lights with the help of contemporary artist\u00a0Jack Carden<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>in his latest music video for fan favorite track\u00a0“Unhinged”<\/strong>\u00a0out now<\/a>.\u00a0<\/strong>Later this month, the artist will share his highly anticipated debut record\u00a0The Sound of You Laughing<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0out on August 29\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>via\u00a0Atlantic<\/strong>\u00a0Records,\u00a0<\/strong>available to\u00a0pre-save now<\/a>. This September, he’ll hit the road across North America with support from\u00a0re6ce\u2013<\/strong>see a full list of dates below.<\/p>\n\n\n

Dark with a touch of suspense, “Unhinged” was born from a 2023 voice recording that the artist couldn’t get out of his head. He continued to put it down and pick it back up for over a year, until October 2024 while making the forthcoming album. ThxSoMch explains, “When I decided to record some older song ideas, I came back to it. Recorded it, didn\u2019t think much of it, and posted it. To my surprise, it became a fan favourite.” <\/em><\/strong>Only finished after the album was complete, It ended up being a late addition to The Sound of You Laughing<\/em>, and finally, it can be streamed and viewed everywhere.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Produced by grayskies<\/strong> (d4vd<\/strong>, Wisp<\/strong>) <\/strong>and <\/strong>mixed by legendary producer and engineer Mike Crossey <\/strong>(The 1975, Arctic Monkeys<\/strong>) the album is as much self-expression as it is escapism, where he finds both solace and catharsis for himself and fans alike.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Recorded over seven months in Brazil, isolated from everything and everyone he knows alongside producer grayskies, ThxSoMch poured himself into a body of work that fully captures everything he is today\u2013it’s vulnerable, raw and made with true intention and a clear purpose. Recalling what it felt like to make, the artist shares, “It put me in the best mental place I\u2019ve been in for a long time. No phone, no English, no sense of time\u2014just a flow state that let me escape everything else. Creating this was like a cigarette after a long craving. I hope it can be that for someone else too\u2014a fix, a release, something to hold onto when everything else slips. It\u2019s the sound of acceptance and the sound of burying what\u2019s really going on. It\u2019s mockery and coping, choking and surviving.”<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The fully-charged project, mixed by legendary producer and engineer Mike Crossey, sees the multi-faceted songwriter, producer and performer find his own sound that disrupts both rock and rap as he delivers a fast-paced, exhilarating and honest examination of the self and life’s impermanence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Full of energy and emotion, ThxSoMch continues, “It isn\u2019t a cure\u2014it\u2019s a distraction. A pause. A breath between breakdowns. Just long enough to feel okay before the weight comes back. You can\u2019t laugh forever. You laugh until you choke. And then it\u2019s not so funny anymore.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last month, the artist shared “Sound of You Laughing<\/a>” which took shape after musician Flawed<\/strong> Mangoes<\/strong> sent the artist various instrumentals, whose evocative guitar riff became the song’s foundation. Defiant and uninhibited, each line is delivered with the slight twinge of pain that comes with digging up the past. Including the track on their Wonderlist<\/em><\/strong>, Wonderland Magazine<\/a> wrote, “Angsty dark wave pop is really pulling the punches right now, and Thxsomch is finding his feet in a burgeoning market. ‘Sound Of You Laughing’ is a sad boi banger with snappy, emotive vocals and heady, guitar-led instrumentation.”<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

ThxSoMch burst onto the scene in 2022 with viral hit “SPIT IN MY FACE!<\/strong>” which has garnered 672M+ <\/strong>streams on Spotify and charted on the Billboard Hot 100<\/a>. Since then, after touring the U.S., Europe and taking the Rolling<\/strong> Loud<\/strong> stage, the artist has only continued to elevate, evolve and expand his artistry and fast-growing, fervent global fan base, boasting over 414K followers on TikTok.
