Known for their fierce energy and unapologetic attitude, the band has upped the ante by taking an entirely new approach to writing and recording this time around.

Unlike past albums, which were recorded in one continuous stretch, Dirty and Bad was forged in two vastly different environments—each bringing its own distinct energy to the album. Four tracks were recorded at Soundmine Recording Studio in East Stroudsburg, PA, a high-end space known for its expansive rooms and immersive sound. The remaining six songs took shape in the raw, no-frills setting of Frightbox Recording in Passaic, NJ, inside an old industrial complex that channeled a darker, more intense energy. Each location, along with its respective producers—Dan Malsch (Soundmine) and Ben Karas (Frightbox)—helped shape an album that balances polish with grit, precision with spontaneity.

“Writing and recording is a wild, love-hate rollercoaster for me,” shares vocalist Helena Cos. “On one hand, I live for the final product—that moment when everything clicks, and the music finally comes to life. But getting there? It’s like hacking my way through a dense, sweltering jungle with my comrades in arms as we battle relentless obstacles, dodge unseen dangers, and as I wrestling with my own creative demons. Every song is a fight, every session is a test of endurance. But when we finally emerge on the other side—bruised, exhausted, victorious—I feel like we are stepping into Valhalla, where all the struggle suddenly feels worth it.”

This evolution in recording wasn’t the only change. The band also completely restructured their songwriting process. Rather than grinding through an entire album in one relentless stretch, they worked in phases—writing a batch of songs, selecting the strongest, recording them, and then repeating the process. “Breaking things up like this was a game-changer,” says Helena. “It gave us time to step back, absorb what worked, and refine our vision while staying true to the raw energy we were after.”

Every member of Spider Rockets connected deeply with a different track, reflecting the diversity and intensity of Dirty and Bad. For Helena Cos, The Storm stands out as a personal anthem. “It’s about struggle and fighting against adversity. Facing hardships head-on and refusing to back down. It resonates strongly with me.” That same track hit home for AJ Garcia, who describes its movement and apocalyptic bridge as a relentless force that throws you back into a full-throttle groove. Meanwhile, Johnny Nap gravitated toward the album’s title track, Dirty and Bad, which he sees as a raw, unfiltered look into the battle between good and evil lurking inside all of us. “It doesn’t shy away from the darker corners of human nature.” On the heavier side, Dan Prestup found his moment in Casual Violence. “As a drummer, I love how it’s super heavy and fast.” Each song tells its own story, embodying the intensity and depth that defines the album.

For Spider Rockets, making Dirty and Bad was never about rushing to the finish line. It was about giving the music the time it deserved. “When you rush, you cut corners, and when you cut corners, you risk losing the magic,” says Helena. “Slow and steady doesn’t just win the race—it creates something real, something we’re truly proud of. And in the end, that’s all that matters.”

About Spider Rockets:

New Jersey-based Spider Rockets deliver high-energy, no-holds-barred rock with a modern edge. Led by dynamic vocalist Helena Cos, the band blends classic rock attitude with contemporary fire, driven by Johnny Nap’s razor-sharp riffs, Dan Prestup’s explosive drumming, and AJ’s gritty bass grooves.
